MED's filer/stubstack assembly is a nice piece of kit. So much nicer looked than my old K&N pancake filters and stub stacks from the 1980's. Had my ITG branded MED kit foe about 8 years now, filter still cleans up nicely and there's no evidence of the foam deteriorating. Just wish the red bit was black as I prefer a more subtle look. I painted mine with plastic paint and it's lasted pretty well. I also made up captive nuts to fit in the carbs so that fitting and removal of the alloy backing plate is far easier than using the supplied nuts and bolts.

Tidy looking engine bay.

good to hear the filters still cleans up well after all those years.

I’ve got ac Dodd over to tune it in a weeks time and looking forward to feeling the difference

Filled the tank and took it for lunch in an excellent restaurant in a local village.

The Mini had 98 RON from Intermarché, whilst my wife and I had l'Œuf mollet et pané sur salade de lentille du Puy, followed by Pavé de bœuf Limousin et millefeuille de pommes de terre and for desert Fondant au chocolat et caramel beurre salé, all accompanied by a delicious bottle of 2019 Chateau Fleur d'Eymerits Lalande de Pomerol.

That sounds delicious :)

I swapped the drum brakes for 7.5" discs. Took them from an MK2 I bought some years ago, disassembled drive trains from both cars, swapped them, bleeded the system and started the running Mini and took a drive. Bedded the brakes in after 15 years standing around. No leaks, good braking power, all nice !

Current system is now a GMC167 Master cylinder, the FAM7821 valve, going to the 7.5 discs at the front and what I believe to be 3/4 rear cylinders (original front to rear split in a 1979 LHD car).

Happy with the system so far, looking for driving it further :)

Turned the dizzy drive to allow the firing sequence / lead positions  to follow convention.
Car won't start now!!
Hopefully only requires adjustment by one tooth on the drive to correct.

Started treating the rust on the front subframe with Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80.

This was picked up as an advisory on the recent MOT, so might as well do a bit of rust proofing now.

Had a visit from AC Dodd who has turned the horrible part throttle lean out we were experiencing to a full on beast of a drivable car.

What a difference he’s made to how the car drives

Checked the cam timing on project Biggy Smalls, 4 degree key required, checked the rocker ratio to find it was terrible so ordered a set of 1.3-1 rockers, undone the nasty nuts on the 4 syncho gearbox, checked the layshaft end float, shim required.

Turned one tooth, worked through all the instruction in Haynes Manual.  They are really quite informative, will read more before starting clutch adjustment.
turned the distributor to check points, adjusted for open position.
Waited for battery to charge……
Turn key, advance distributor boom, started.   Adjusted idle screw.
Starts and runs.

Today's job was to replace the rattly old black plastic mirrors with some new ones.
Of course I went for chrome!

And it seems to be compulsory at car shows here to have a miniature version of your car affixed to the dashboard, so I bought and resprayed a Mini Mini, and stuck it to the dash with a bit of velcro.

Yesterday on my way home from a rolling road session, I noticed a huge amount of smoke behind me and I thought that I had blown a piston on my newly rebuilt engine on the 1990 Cooper. However, the engine was running fine.

I stopped at the gliding club of which I'm a member and I had used 1/2 the oil in the engine in around 10 miles. Topped up with oil from the stores and drove the 11 miles home which used around a further 4 pints.

After investigation it turned out there was a long crack in the top of the diff cover.

Today, with the help of my Grandson, the engine was removed, a replacement cover taken from a spare gearbox, and fitted to the gearbox. Then the engine was re-fitted into the car and everything connected up again. We finished just before 6-00 pm. Just the bonnet, wheels, exhaust pipe and sump guard to be fitted tomorrow.

I had to get it done as it has to go to the Kimbolton show on Sunday

What a busy old day!

Drove 2 hours to see Jason who owns a mk2 with a rotrex supercharger go for a rolling road at Ray West Tuning at thruxton circuit.
His supercharger(second one in 4 months) blew up on the third run😳 at 133hp.
So we put mine on for a little sort out. He found 9hp from the initial run and really smoothed out the map and improved the feel considerably.
Kudos to West tuning
Then went to Ben at bagsport about a cheeky little turbo, then onto a show at Cranleigh polo club for a couple of hours.
Total faultless miles. 195
