Cut off some of the inner wings to give it a solid try to mount the new CGA3 subframe. Still a tight fit though, so gonna chop some more and try again.

Fitted a new fuel level sender unit, and changed the boring black wipers for shiny stainless ones from Minispares.

Went for a little drive……ran out of fuel, despite the fuel gauge saying three quarters full.

Half a Jerry can later, she fires up.

Guess what I’ll be doing this weekend!

Removed the fuel tank sender after yesterday’s running out of fuel episode.

Couldn’t see anything obvious that was getting stuck in the tank.

Checked the movement of the float arm - all seemed well.

Put it back together & the gauge seems to be working- reads low now (always read three quarters full).

Gotta love Minis!

First little jobs on our 2000 cooper.

Boot wasn't locking. Stripped the lock down to find that the little "nipple" on the end of the lock barrel had sheared off. Cleaned up all the crud on the mechanism and replacement lock set ordered from minispares, plus new seal.

Also corrected the interior door pull. One was pointing up, one was pointing down. Both now pointing up.

Windows are next on my hit list, both mechanisms are stiff and I can hear a grinding noise when I'm winding down the last couple of inches so I suspect there is a bit of corrosion going on there.

Took the K&N's off and fitted an MED twin HS4 filter and stub stack.  The stub stacks are so much nicer than the K&N's.

However, the thread decided to remove itself on one of the carbs so had to pull it out and use a bolt to attach the back plate!

Finished fitting the new braided Pressure Gauge pipe, and took it for a 24 mile test drive. All sorted now, and no sign of an oil leak.....

Dropped off the Mini yesterday to get the engine set up correctly.

Took it to Ron Harper Classic Sports who has been tuning engines & particularly carbs for many many years.

What he doesn’t know about carbs isn’t worth knowing about.

Anyway, ignition timing checked & adjusted, compression checked & all good. The carb needle that was already in, was too weak. So new BDR needle fitted, mixture adjusted, idle adjusted, CO2 checked, HC checked.

He advised that the BP7ES spark plugs fitted were too cold for the engine spec, and better off using BP6ES spark plugs (unless using on the track).

And lastly he advised the battery wasn’t getting any charge, which likely down to faulty alternator.

All work carried out was written down for both his & my records.

The car runs like dream now. :shades:

Finished my new super deluxe 300mm timing wheel, started stripping a 4 synchro gearbox to convert from remote change to magic wand, the new housing is flush one side and only 2 thou out on the other, so a pretty decent sort of a day really.

MED's filer/stubstack assembly is a nice piece of kit. So much nicer looked than my old K&N pancake filters and stub stacks from the 1980's. Had my ITG branded MED kit foe about 8 years now, filter still cleans up nicely and there's no evidence of the foam deteriorating. Just wish the red bit was black as I prefer a more subtle look. I painted mine with plastic paint and it's lasted pretty well. I also made up captive nuts to fit in the carbs so that fitting and removal of the alloy backing plate is far easier than using the supplied nuts and bolts.
