Replaced the seals in the clutch master cylinder. AAARRRRGGGHH Got the split pin and pin out without too much trouble after removing the front seats, the column and the heater/air pipes, but I had to make up a special clamp/holder to get the new pin back in and opening the new split pin was a nightmare. The fork needed a bit of welding to make the hole round again. The bloke who put them in at the factory must have been paid well and been a contortionist to boot.

I fit a R clip to the clevis pins for ease of removal

I tried that but there was too much  chance of the end of the clip touching the frame and preventing the clutch returning fully.  Maybe you have smaller R clips.

Just about to swap the estate for the saloon at the other garage and discovered the indicators had stopped working, so returned home to investigate.  Blown fuse, plus the brake light switch was broken and a brake light bulb was dead (same circuit).  Minispares order in and now waiting for the switch.  I may have damaged the switch removing/replacing the clutch master cyl... :shy:

Took the interior out, bonnet, boot, fuel tank out, arches off, windscreen, back and side glass, most of the engine bay except engine itself (need to borrow a hoist) BIG DAY. Revealed not as much corrosion as I thought I would.......for now!

Played with the mixture settings on my carb, hopefully that helps start to sort my running issues. Did a coolant flush and re-fill, ordered a boat load of service parts to do a full service, clean my tank and fit a fuel filter before the carb... Just need to wait and see if any of that stuff sorts my problems out. If not then it'll be off for a timing check at the garage

Connected the battery, turned the key & started up first time.

Pulled her out of the garage, washed & detailed the paintwork.

Looks stunning in the sunshine

Booked her in for an MOT for next Friday.

Fitted a new rad top bracket after the original one snapped, probably due to not fitting the rubber washers and sleeves first time round, doh! While I was there fitted a new earth strap and vac pipe

Spent 2 hours honing a cam gear and polishing a camshaft so they would actually fit together without needing to use a sodding lump hammer to assemble them, went to start timing the cam in only to find my degree wheel has cracked, disassembled the oil pump to find its well within tolerance ( Result) went to put it to find the bolts are miles too long.so a mixed bag sort of a day really.

Annual oil change the other week, then expansion tank decided to bubble and overflow….. panic and time consuming thoughts then passed, and changed the thermostat and sensor, now as good as ever, so luckily not the head gasket or pump.

A good flush is due anyway so that’s next weekend’s job ,and maybe a pump change as a winter job as i bought one as a precaution as I was passing mini spares last week.

Took the Mk1 out for a blast ( well trundle) and I'm pretty sure at one point we nearly breached the 60 mph mark ( down hill, following wind) pumped the tyres up and filled the tank

Took some photos for my application to FFVE which will allow me to register it as a 'vehicule de collection', which means I can have black and silver plates, and only take it for a CT every 5 years. Being a black car it will just look cooler with the old style plates.

The copy of this month's L'Equipe Le Mans special is necessary to prove when the photos were taken. A lot of people were registering highly modified vehicles using old photos.

After polishing my dad's car in exchange for him doing some bit on the Mini whilst I was working, I decided it was the Mini's turn, so she was hand polished followed by 2 coats of Soft 99 wax. Then fitted new door seals as the old ones were a bit shot, also ordered all things needed for 7.5 disc conversion😁
