Continued on rebuilding my Gearbox I will use for the project.

played a bit with the synchro hubs before installing the laygear. Resulting in 3 balls and their spring to wander around (luckily inside the box). Did not knew that the synchro hub is blocked only later by the layshaft...

Tried to reinstall the balls in situ, no success yet.

Checked the clearance between the lyshaft and the housing, and ordered shims at Guessworks. And three new springs as the new one show already some wear. Bugger.

..it's a bugger to get them back in with the shaft installed.  my tip is to use a tie wrap around the synchro hub to hold the balls/springs in place, then slide the collar back over

Hehe, this is what I was thinking about :)

Will continue as soon as the delivery from Guessworks arrives. I will try to get them back on in position. Otherwise I will need to remove the shaft...

Today I had the clever idea of cleaning the threads for the speedo drive cover as there was some gasket paste leftovers. It crunched a lot and there was a lot of dirt in the threads.

Then I remembered I sandblasted the case with glass media (I covered all the openings with specially cut cardboards and sticked them with duck tape) Still a lot of dirt in the box I had to clean afterwards but I did not thought about the threads.

It's incredible where the glass media can go...

Refitted gas tank and took a drive. RPMs are quite low, need to troubleshoot. I stalled when I came to.a stop at a stop sign.

Bottom arm bush (RH/drivers side)

They must have been on the way out for some time but I only realised on Wednesday - just leaving a car show and the car suddenly shot across the road as if I had skidded on some oil.

Then carefully (!) trying it out, showed that after turning hard right the car would steer itself across the road (as the tie bar could move backwards and forwards of its own accord - very dodgy!)

Been getting to it lately...

Adjusted the Spax much softer and am trying to fix the ride height (still not great). Deleted the heater and removed the heater valve.

Taking the car in to get the carb redone and tuned a bit.

I've got a laundry list of things that I want to do, including an engine swap, full rewire, and restomod interior.

Received the delivery from Guessworks (shims for the laygear and synchro springs).

Repaired my mistake from last week. Reinstalled the synchro hub at its place with the help of a hose clamp and three pins to push the balls further in the synchro.

Managed to make it work after a 2h battle.

Then I could go further and set the clearance on the laygear and finally install it together with the central oil pick-up.

Next is to recheck the clearance on the main bearing retainer and tighten everything.

I was so concentrated in this job that I forgot to have my dinner...
