Spent the day with at Slark getting the engine and suspension sorted; the improvements in the driving dynamics are incredible. He found me about 15 more horses that had swanned off to another pasture. Significantly more torques as well. The car even goes in a straight line now when I come on and off the power…who knew that was a thing!?

After attending the WCM Isle of Wight adventure over the weekend and having a great time, I then took the Mini down to Devon for a few days, the Mini performed excellently, other than the fresh air duct located under the drivers wing falling off, requiring me to run back down the road to retrieve it before it got run over. I covered about 900 miles and the Mini didnt miss a beat but has gained a few more rattles.

Finally located a pinhole on the wingside of the header tank. By the looks of the stalactite of rust, it hadn't just happened.
I don't think the engine cooling system liked being drained and open to the air for two years while the bodywork was restored, as testified by what came out when I drained the system.
So I'm treating the cooling system to a de-rust, stays in for up to a week, then two flushes with water and a clean Antifreeze mix.
Weirdly, with the cleaner in, I'd swear the engine is running more smoothly than previously.

Speak to a local welder and get a stainless or ally tank made, saves you having these issues

I wanted an ally one but Mini Spares were out of stock. The replacement is my second, and last, Mini one.
Next is a VW or Volvo or ally one.

Busted my knuckles yesterday...
All NEW: LH Engine Steady, 4 Row Radiator, Waterpump, Temp Sensor (correct for the Innocenti Gauge).
Also All new rear shocks and cones.
Had to leave it alone after spending 45 minutes trying to get the radiator hoses on. I will try again tomorrow.

Took the Mini out for little blast, all was going well for most of the journey, until I headed home then everytime i slowed down the engine cut out, after getting it home using the choke to keep it running I did a bit of investigation, initially I checked the mixture and the car was running rich, on further investigation I esablished that the piston assembly unit was sticking in the dashpot, I then loosened the dash pot fixing screws repositioned it and retightened the screws. I started the car and all was back to normal. I don't know what happened to cause the problem as the car has been running so sweet for the last 4,000 miles?

I’d check for light scoring inside the dashpot.
