wooooo hooooo mini past MOT no advisory's not even a mention of emission. bloody strange how it varies from garage to garage. anyway very happy can get it back out and enjoy it... on another note ordered a new fuel sender unit as its not worked for ages, whipped the old one out and the float is full of petrol... that would do it. New one on the way so for the first time in ages I wont have to keep dipping the tank!

It depends on the tester and how good they are with their tools ?

The rheostat had failed on mine, you could have had my old float.

1990 Mini Mayfair 1000 Japanese Spec Cooper Conversion: Time for steering column bushings.

Wouldn't you know it, bolt that holds column shaft to Steering rack broke off inside coupler! AARGH!
No room for a drift punch, tried clamping vice grips as tight as possible to threaded end sticking out and hammering away, no go.
Eventually wound up forcing the clamp section apart enough to finally remove the shaft.
Went out and got a grade 8 bolt as a replace the broken bolt.

Nice tight steering now.

Despite being sat in the garage unused for two years it passed its MOT first time today.

Now got the fun task of registering it with DVLA.

Changed out my old fuel tank sender for a new one. The old one had worn through the wire on the rheostat.

Finished up early at work today, so went and took the rear subframe out.
Have the car ar works so I've been spraying penetrating fluid on all the bolts the last week.  Only snapped one.

Well I serviced e her yesterday and couldn't figure out what I did for the engine to fail to start. This morning I found the problem and it was a loose connection to the coil.

Finally making some progress after 7 years so far!  40th LE in Island Blue.

Body stripped and it's off for blasting and etch primer next.  It will now reside where my son is doing his classic car restoration apprenticeship with an Austin 7 specialist restorer.  This is the first project car for his spare time and I can go there and work on it too.  He is then after his own mini for when he turns 17 next year after having learned on this one!

Subframes off and ready to be stripped down and go for blasting/powder coating.

Been working on the engine and gearbox for some time now also, that's almost complete now, going 1330, Swiftune cam, MED 1.3 rockers, duplex, AC Dodd head, rebuilt box with a lot of new uprated Guessworks parts, windage tray and 3.2FD, crosspin diff etc.

Create a temporary makeshift sun/rain shade (until I can afford a garage!), cleaned and polished and added the L2B NHS sticker!

I hope the RS6 is strong enough to tow a trailer and a Mini Shell on it ;)

I did a bargain yesterday, although not compatible with my Mini:

mmHiieOl.jpg

About 120 pounds for both. They look to be in good shape, maybe a little welding on the rear to do.

By the way, is the rear one specific to the mk1-3 or can I put it on a later shell?

AFAIK are only the front trunnions the smaller type, can they be changed to later models?

Fixed the end of the lower dash rail, spent far too long shaping a replacement end, then decided just to get it welded in.

All ready now to add brackets on to A Post closer.

Having spent a day managing 4 inches of weld, I can see why im 2 years into Resto, just the doors and the roof left
