Got my engine out, popped the flywheel off and took it down to the engine shop to have some straight cut drops fitted... mmm loud noises!

Removed the rear subframe and made new lips on the front arches after cutting away some of the metal. That should stop the wheels rubbing.

Collected it from the garage, with a fresh MOT and a quick service. Then ordered some new parts to jack the rear end up a bit.

Cleaned her (after the root became a toilet stop for a diarrhoea-stricken bird  ), fitted new wiper blades and investigated some oil leaks.

Next weekend's the time to take stuff apart!!!

Fitted my nice new handmade steering drop bracket. Can I just say that shear bolts are the filthy scum of the bolt world. I HATE them.

Put new bushes in the steering column too. Old ones were in pieces after only 18K miles. Worth doing peeps!

Picked it up from Southam Mini & Metro Centre after they sorted a dodget hub and bearing problem.

That's what you get when you buy dodgey parts off people (Mantis Mini's)

Had so many problems with these break setups. And now I am £150 down to fix just this part. I paid £300.

Oh well.

Finished treating the rust and painting the sill which the rear bumper sits on. I didn't do too bad a job (first time painting). Also gave the rest of the car a polish and wax whilst waiting for the primer/paint to dry in between layers. I need to raise the front up a bit, catching worse than ever when turning when I put on the rear hilo's at the weekend :)

I lightly sanded and sprayed the pressed steel front grill on the 25; witch is just like sanding a cheese grater and something I’m having to do at least twice a year so it never looks too rusty.

I had some black spray left over from something else got gave the wiper arms a spray over as well. While those were off I also fixed the blocked washer jet, just need some new blades now.

Swapped the lock part of the boot handle into another less worn spare, painted it up and fitted it, so now my boot is a little more secure than it was.

And lastly I fixed the annoying exhaust rattle, one of the u clamps on the rear hanger had some how loosened its self slightly.

Having got all the bits together to swap the 1 1/4 std carb for the 1 1/2 hif i had i discovered i didn't have everything i needed so yet another trip to green & whites resulted in me waiting for the engine to cool and taking the filler cap out to check inside..........HEAD GASKET HAS GONE.

I have stripped the head off and got in on the bench and decided to resurrect the 998 head i started porting and polishing a while ago, seems like a good reason to finish it so much grinding and polishing ahead, and i may as well recondition the rad and housing and stat housing etc while there all off, oh and replace the hoses and clips and not forgetting to treat any rust, and re seal the y joint

ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS SWAP THE CARB OVER

I love minis and the work they create
