This week is preparation for our annual Grantown on Spey weekender(leaving tomorrow, show on sunday) A quick waterless wash and wax, then a drive to see if there will be issues, none to report ? cross the fingers and go for it

Fitted new battery (excellent service by Tayna batteries by the way).
Fixed the rear fog light illumination - in line fuse was not seated properly.

Bought a ball joint splitter & ball joint kit ready for this weekends job!

Fixed washer jets so there was a steady stream instead of the pathetic dribble I had previously!
Took off the hose at jets & reservoir ends and blew compressed air down it. That seemed to clear the blockage!

Started to remove the old ball joint in preparation for fitting new one.

Fitted new upper ball joint.
First time I’d replaced one, so had to consult this YouTube vid: https://m.youtube.co...h?v=JtHHfkHTPZs

Went fairly straight forward. Only time consuming part was figuring out how many shims to use (tightening, checking play, untightening, fitting more shims, tightening and repeat!)

Started to replace the manifold gasket as it seems to be blowing on the outer edge.
Removed the manifold nuts and lifted the inlet manifold out the way (those 2 inner nuts are a nightmare to get to!)

I stared intently at the engine, touched a few hoses, then went on the internet to find out what it all meant

Dropped exhaust off the brackets to move the manifold away from the studs.
Removed the old manifold gasket. I can see why it was blowing now. There was nothing left of it on one corner!

Yip, that’ll do it.

Been busy this weekend.

Welded cracked toeboard, fitted front subframe rear mounts to the now repaired and also now reinforced toeboard. Strengthened upper engine steady bracket (the bracket that's on left of bulkhead under brake servo). Welded captive nuts to front subframe for mounting the sump guard, should make life easier when changing oil in future. Sorted oil leak from sump plug, was only a little weapy but was enough to pisd me off ?
Started to paint front subframe, ready to be rebuilt with everything that was removed. Fitted pit stand mounts to O/S sill, also reinforced around that area to enable use of them.

Swapped the mkIV taillights with mkII/III taillights. Changed the passenger side rear shock while the tank had been moved. Need to buy another shock and replace the driver's side rear shock next.

Had a minor triumph today in successfully removing a broken manifold stud.
The previous owner had left it in & not not bothered to fix it.
Bought a stud extractor, as mole grips weren’t working.
These stud extractors are awesome! It pulled out some stubborn rusted studs.
