I don't mind helping out as well. It was typed in a light hearted way but obviously this never came across. [/quote]

I found your comment quite accepatable... funny and light hearted. Made me smile. Im the noobie not only trying to learn my way around a mini and engine, but trying to learn the British terminology. You guys are a fun lot

I'm glad you did, my brother and family live south of you in Houston, he's also trying to educate Americans about English humour, correct English spelling and use of grammar . Who knows, next time I'm over we may try and drive up to see you.

You are more than welcome to give a ring and stop by...  We already another TMF member dropping by next year...   would welcome the visit

Well I painted my bonnet the other day, and was well impressed! But it does need lacquering to protect if anything from minor chips and branch scratches iykwim

I've opened another thread on a air compressor I'm after for this. I've looked at airless, but reviews aren't generally positive, and price I might as well get a air version

Careful, you'll end up with all of us camping on your front lawn. How much would it cost to ship a Mini over to the states for a two week holiday?

I don't know if you've got a Haynes Manual but well worth buying it even if its just so you can learn what we're talking about when we speak the Queens English, you'll also be able to understand the correct use of English engine terminology.  Anything to help the colonials out.  :proud:

Right..  here something I find rather amusing... quite fascinating about you Brits...

Checked the coolant level as I noticed it was boiling up after a drive yesterday.
Mmmmmm.... nice rusty colour & couldn't really see where level was!
Time to replace the coolant!

Also, is there supposed to be a fill level in the rad? All I could see was the top of the cores.

I've had a day to kill as I'm dog sitting for my girlfriends parents so I made a couple of fuel filler bibs from leather (another one of my strange hobbies). If anybody is interested in how I made these, I took photos throughout so I could compile a 'how-to' so you could possibly have a go yourself?

I've seen a few people asking about fuel filler bibs and where to locate them and it seems pretty difficult to get your hands on one (without travelling to japan) so you could have a go yourself!

Pulled the mini out of the garage to drain the coolant, flush the system & renew.
The wife came out of the house to tell me we are going out to buy a new sofa!
So put the mini back in the garage.......

Repurposed passenger side air vent ducting - hardly any air coming through and tired of induction roar from Ramair filter which was fixed directly to carb.

So unbolted from carb and fixed to air duct inlet elbow, other end of duct attached to Rover V8 carb elbow (had to slot mounting holes in order to bolt to hif44)

Definite drop in induction noise, performance seems unaffected.

Any suggestions to improve airflow? e.g. worth having an inlet trumpet within filter when sited remotely?)

I did something similar on one of my campers.

Used a 3" house gutter downpipe elbow, heated the end with a heat gun until it was soft and pushed it over the carb elbow, fitted perfectly. Used a big jubilee clip to hold it in place.

My first attempt I used a short length of plastic drain pipe to mount the filter

Didn't like it there so used some trunking to move it in front of the radiator. Can't see any reason why the same fitting shouldn't be used on a Mini, there should be enough room for the plastic elbow, and a nice big bore on the carb inlet to reduce any restriction.
