Was struggling to get a good weld without blowing a hole in the metal, can't really explain it, but am cleaning the front up and redoing it as I'm not at all happy with it.what happened with the welding! you not using gas or somthing?

It's still sat a bit high, so got to get some hi-lo's, or cut downt he trumpets.
Also want to wash and empty it, paint up the back to get the lights and bootlid on, and also finish the front.

If you're still struggling to get a decent weld 1st IA is to change the tip this will cure it 9 times out of 10
You've made a nice job of it, personally I would have removed the subby and used a simple frame but then you would have had to buy some susupension units or chop the hubs and stuff so doing it your way was the cheapest and easiest option.
Looking forward to seeing the final product!!

Think I may have got hold of a pair of hi-lo's for very cheap, so we shall see...cut the trumpets....its cheaper ad at the end of the day it is only a trailer
If not I'll just be cutting the trumpets, as that only takes minutes.
Trailer's looking good Dave

Tip and shroud changed, but it was the regulator not working properly, changed that, and switched to Argon/CO2 mix, and it seems to be much better!
The main weight left int eh subframe is the trailing arms, I may consider moving to indispension (sp.) units at some point, but not too worried yet. Next job is finishing that damned front end, getting all the odd litter out the middle, and spraying it, while starting on the roof.
Not that much fun working outside in January, but at least it's not snowing!

I don't think it looks too bad.
Also going to cut the crappy welding of the front and use a sill to make the lower edge, allowing me a nice overlap and to weld on the inside. Then got to form the top of the front using a few bits of curved metal I have.
Last, and probably hardest job, will be making the lid, but that can wait.

Oi you lot, stop arguing in my project thread,
If you want to ask me anything or question my motives then please do so, but don't start shouting at eachother.what a waste of a mini. you no mini lover
I removed the quoted pictures from your reply, hope you don't mind.
Did you read what I said, the Mini had been rolled, it's written off, dead, destroyed, caved in, and was beyond repair.
I could have rebuilt it, with almost all new panels, but would never have been happy it was safe, so rather then scrapping the shell I made a trailer.ye we are runing out of minis cause more and more people like you are wasteing them. and there no such thing as a mini to far gone or to rotten@Simon
How on earth is it a waste? Its not like its just getting scrapped?! Plus, we're not exactly running out of Minis are we...
As above, the vehicle would have been unsafe. It would have needed a new roof, new sides, new front, and new bulkhead, essentially an entire new shell.
So Danny, Simon, I respect your opinions, but I don't need your approval for anything I decide to do.
If you don't like what I've done, then thats fine, but don't make my project thread a battleground.
As you're relatively new to the forum, you won't have read my other project threads on the three mini's I have saved and returned to the road in the last year and a half, or know that I'm currently also restoring two rather tired Wolseley Hornets.
Thanks,
Dave
Well said mate
P.S i have read your other threads fantastic work

Hi im thinking of doing a trailer, do you have any top tips for doing one? just looked through urs and its seems to be a well good project, i would make one for the loads space so its not to fussy, the only thing im rubbish with is elecs, can u buy all the bits you need from a trailer/camping store, like the arm and hitch ect?
Start with as rust free shell as you can find, preferably one that's been rolled or had a very heavy frontal. You don't want to have to start replacing arches and bits if you don't have to.
Secondly, before cutting the shell, cut the wiring to the rear lights as close to the fusebox as you can, one ready made wiring loom for your trailer, (I think I posted pics of mine).
The connectors can be bought from Halfords, Range, Machinemart, ebay, etc, etc.
The hitch you can also buy.
If you look I made the draw bar myself from some box section, somewhere round page 2 I think.
