Hi All

Specs are , Mpi 1293, Stage 3, FSE fuel Valve, Sw5i Cam, 1.5.1 rockers, standard mpi manifold.

Wonder if anyone can help

Story goes like this.

Was coming home on Saturday afternoon, Car was sitting in traffic and water temp was sitting around 90 degrees.

Pulled onto the Motorway, and was crusing around 70-75 mph, then deciced to give Kermit some beans to catch a new mini and :w00t: So accelerated up to 80-85, car was running great. Then all of a sudden there was power loss, like I had suddenly taken my foot of the accelerator. I noticed the water temp gauge was flashing at me saying it had hit over 110 degrees. I stuck on the heater, and slowed down to 65.

Car was still pulling away nicely, will still accelerate, and there was hot air coming from the heater. However there is a knocking noise coming from the engine :P

So I got home and checked him out, found out his Oil was low. So topped this back up to the max level, around 2 liters were required. Started him back up and there was white smoke ;)

So today I changed the oil to fresh 20/50 and new oil filter. The old oil was only measuring at 3 liters in the engine :w00t: No signs of mayo tho.

Started the car back up and when you rev it white smoke is coming from the exhaust, and also from the left hand side of the engine, not exactly sure where tho, Think it might be the exhaust manifold or the back of the head.

Kinda worried ......Think it might be the dreaded.....Head Gasket.

He is not loosing any water, his expansion tank is still ok, and I have not topped it up.

Any ideas?

Mike

Might be worth while doing a compression check to make sure all 4 cylinders have the same amount?

Replacing the head gasket would do the exact same. No?

sounds like head gasket to me! :P white smoke is usally a sign of water and you dont need much to get lots of smoke. Or it could be brake fluid being drawn in from perished servo seal. both water and brake fluid will reduce the efficency in combustion and loose you power and produce white smoke. but the usual suspect is the head gasket i'm affraid :mrcool:

Well I am not experincing any power loss, Infact I would say he is driving well.

However, now you mention brake fluid. I have had to top it up on a regular basis.

I have just ordered an exhaust gasket as I forgot to get one yesterday, and I am off to pick it up this afternoon, I will check to see if they have a brake servo seal as well.

Will let you know how I get on tonight

went out today after work and ripped the car apart.

Took the head of expecting to see carnage... but No :)

I did however notice that the underside of the head on the cylinder on the oposite alternator was super black, and wet. Like oil wet :)

I have cleaned the head up, and then the block, fitted a new head gasket and a new exhaust gasket.

Still to finish it off, as Its dinner time <_<

Will post back tomorrow

by the way why is the Servo repair hit sooooooo expensive

Dr mike was out tonight again after work and fitted the last of the inlet manifold stuff.

Decided to take the brake servo off and check this out. Pulled the servo off and about a large tea cup of brake fluid poured out

so I now need a new servo, and possibily a master cylinder as I think its leaking a bit.

Fitted up the new brake master and servo that I got yesterday.

Checked the gaps on the rocker and rolled the car out the garage to fire him up.

as normal, car started on the first turn of the key, went around to the bonnet, and there is still white smoke coming from the left side of the engine where the crank case breather is.

Could the gasket have blown between the gearbox case and the engine, and if so would this cause the white smoke from the case and the exhaust?

Oh and another thing, all of a sudden my coil pack has packed in, its only firing on the middle 2 cylinders,w which is the top two on the coil pack :D

So the engine is not running well :)
