Well it's been a while since I updated this.. I got stuck in Scotland with the bad weather, and then I had food poisoning for a few days.. Grrrreat.

Anyway I got a bit more done today,

Removed the rusted rear bin section and replaced it, I forgot to take a picture of it replaced, but I'm sure you can use your imaginations..
Posted Image

Started attacking the sill, and noticed there was some rust sneaking about under the seatbelt mount
Posted Image

Removed the mounting point
Posted Image

Removed inner sill
Posted Image

Say hello to the inside of my crossmember.. and yes I did vacuum out the rust!
Posted Image

I found a new hole above the hanging bracket on the floor..
Posted Image

Welded it up
Posted Image

Made new inner sill

Who needs a metal folder when you have an engine hoist, a length of box section and some clamps..? (the answer is ME).
Posted Image

Welded in and dressed
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Reattached seatbelt mount
Posted Image

Sorted out the dodgy flitch plate
Posted Image

And wanged a nice thick coat of stonechip on the inner sill.

Another rendezvous with ze velder tomorrow. I cannae wait.. >_<

I like the improvised folder but personally i use a more upmarket variety, a nice piece of oak kitchen worktop and metal bar. >_<

The stupid thing is i do have access to a very nice folder at work but as work is 136 miles away its a bit of a trek. Hey ho!!

Its coming along nicely keep it going.

Rust is just a virus but we cant cure it with pills only the mighty welder and grinder.

Haha I think you definitely win the improvised folder competition. And Nicky, the optimism is all a front!! You've never heard the likes of the language that comes out of me when I find a lovely new bit of rust..

Near side's always seem to be in better nick and offside's. Very impressive work pbp!

The nearside is genrally better as all the puddles on the side of the road wash all the mud and rubbish off the underside where as the offside doesnt so it sits there and rusts. if your car has a suspension squeak its normally from the offside as it gets dry.

Do you know your not supposed to put spot welds less than 3cm apart? come on pete your iin the trade you should know these things  Apparently its to do with the next spot weld transfering the elecy energy to the previous spot weld and therefore the spot weld is weak. Thats what my tutor tells me!

Looking like the perverbial nuts of the dog

by spot weld i assume that you mean a tack and if so then car panels when doing repairs like the ones pete is doing are all tacked in place then the gaps in between tacked then those gaps tacked etc till its all welded if you tried to tack it then do a whole bead of weld around the panel it would add a masive amount of heat to the panel and warp it and the metal would become too hot and make a giant hole

I mean spot weld as in resistance spot welding. The process he has used along the sills on the flange. (cant think of another word  )
If you have used plug welds along the top then i apologise pete, they look like spot welds from underneath!

None of that is spot welded, never used a spot welder in my life so I really wouldn't know. I plug weld instead, using the same spacing as per factory fit.

Oh and the spacing of my welds on the sill is the same if not maybe slightly further apart than the spot welds that held on the original sill.
