Looking Great!!

Ive been trying to decide for a while now after seeing your car whether to get a set of 12" D1's or get a set of 12" steels banded, and it looks like your going to my decision alot harder lol :D

Thanks everyone..

Merlin-Mini - I'm not sure yet, I'm in Scotland, so most shows are a bit of a drive! I aim to go to a few, haven't decided which ones yet!

1984mini25 - Imp steels are quite different to mini steels, they have a deeper dish, and hub cap fitting lugs in the centre pressing, you can't fit hubcaps to mini steel wheels. They are 4.5j wide, the same as mini steels, but due to the deeper dish, I think the offset is slightly different.

ad53ggz - The kit seems pretty good, I have retained the factory sound deadening, and then have the felt and normal carpts on top which has made a noticeable difference in road noise. Being a mini it'll never be silent but it's pretty good. I imagine if you have leaks it would soak up water like a sponge and be a pain to dry out, but luckily mine doesn't leak so it's all good.

Learn something new, although a couple of the spare mini steel I have, do have the lugs on them for hubcaps.

Wonder what deep dish steels would look like with the 25 hubcaps Lol

Are you sure about that? No 12" mini steels had the lugs in the centre for the chrome style hub caps, because they were never produced with them. That is as for as I know, but I'm pretty sure. Deep dish with 25 hubcaps.. standard with a twist! I like it.

These are the bits that mini wheels don't have..

Some mini wheels will have tabs attached to fit the 80's style small hubcaps, but they're not the same as these which are part of the pressing.

Just read the whole thread. Such skilled work. inspiring!

One question, what do you use when you are grinding back the old paint? It looks so accurate and kind to the metal, probably ust your skills, but wondering if you had any advice?

Jesus.. been a while. The wheels are turned into a bit of a nightmare. Gave them to an allegedy reputable engineering firm, and they c*cked them right up. Long story short, New wheels were sourced, and I now have banded Vauxhall Viva steels.. Only in primer, and no tyres yet due to massive lack of funds and time, I'm busy restoring a Citroen 2CV atm.
