wow what a job from the metal work to the paint, hope mine come out half as good and ill be happy, can i ask for some help on how you made the subframe mounting point ie. how thick the steel is, ruff size ,it looks like you used two plates if so did you shape both or just the top one as much info as you can may be some picture ? or a drawing if you can this would be so much help again great work please please help!!!!!!!!!simon

Cheers, I used two pieces of 1mm steel, plug welded together. Admittedly not ideal, but I didn't have any thicker gauge stuff lying about. I shaped both plates. I would buy a proper mounting point if I were you, they're not expensive and it saves alot of hassle! I only did it that was as I had limited time and money.

i have already repaired the heal section and i don't think any one makes just that plate ,i had a look unless you know any one ?all i have found is full heal or half heal or the corner repair section with the captive nuts which is not what i need, any help would be great again love the work....simon

yes mate, M-Machine make one. There is a short section of heelboard attached, but it's very easily removed.

thanks your a star

I just primed the areas that needed attention, then flatted them and scotched the rest. Just based over the top of the old paint, it was in good condition, just a bit faded! I'm not a big fan of wet on wet, not for good jobs anyway, it's ok for solid gloss sometimes.

Well it's up to you, but you'd get a better finish if you primed it and flatted it, or if the paint is ok then just paint over the top. You rarely will be able to paint a whole car with primer without getting a few bits of sh*t in the paint, which you'd have to flat out. A coat of barcoat may make more sense?

But its a completely different colour? surely if i just flatted the old paint, it would "bleed through" and make the new colour patchy?

Going from cherry red to smoke grey!

LUV YOU

If your colour changing I would prime the entire car rather than just repair areas or mess around with barcoat. Everybody does it differently but wet on wet is no good when you want a good job. I only ever wet on wet the inside, inside panels or things like subframes, suspension pieces.

Haha no probs.. so long as you apply enough paint, nothing will bleed through, unless you;re putting white over red, which will always go pink. It;s always best to prime and flat the whole car, but sometimes time is a limiting factor, and if you're spraying the car the same or very nearly the same colour and the paint is in good condition, the need to prime over it pretty much goes out of the window.

Sorry  no pictures, I didn't work on it over the weekend apart from fitting the windscreen, waiting on interior bits, and it's stuck in the back of a dingy garage at the moment. Fingers crossed it'll be done this weekend, then I'll put up pictures. I'll send you a PM :dontgetit:
