It's more likely to be your top engine steady bushes ( or the bracket ) which have failed... Was the exhaust strapped to the back of the gearbox, if not that will also cause stresses on the pipe.

Engine mounts are a bit of a fiddle and will require the removal of one side at a time ( suggest doing the o/s first ). You will need to support the engine and remove the clutch cover (wok) and then you can replace the engine mount which is attached to it... The n/s you will again need to support the engine and then remove the radiator, and after that the radiator bracket, you can then access the engine mount which is attached to that.

These pictures should help. The upper steady bar that guessworks refers to is on the left hand side as you look at hte engine, above hte flywheel housing wok. Put the handbrake on hard, and then wobble the engine forwards and back, checking for movement in the bar / bushes. If movement here, replace the bushes. Availaible from minispares.com etc very cheap, you could even look at poly bushes.

I poly bush mine, you do get slight increase in noise, but they are much harder and hold the engine more, however - when they fail their perforemance decreases much quicker than the standard rubber ones if you get me.

Regarding the drawings, these are not haynes...
