1/2" = 12.7 mm
Probably your nuts/bolts are covered in dirt LOL

Agreat source of cheap imperial tools is car boot sales most of my best tools come from tool rumage boxes at carbooties!

I bought a socket set and spanner set, both from Halfords years ago, (about 1999), and haven't broken anything yet!
I'd definately suggest buying something similar, it's well worth having all the correct sized imperial tools.

I've also got the correct square brake adjuster spanner, ball joint socket, (and original BMC ball joint spanner).

Out of interest has anyone ever tried using these Alldrive sockets

you can get away with some metric spanners if you are stuck,

19 and 3/4 are vertually identical,

17 and 11/16 are close

13 and 1/2 can be got away with if you are carefull

iirc 11 and 7/16 are just a bit too diferent.
