Hi,
Is there an esay way of removing the front flexible brake hoses. I have brought the Goodrich brake hose kit.

I had a quick look but its looks as those i need a socket on the top or a ring spanner.

Any help will be greatly recieved.

Cheers

2000 Cooper Mpi

You will probably need to drain the brake fluid out the system, because you need to disconnect the copper brake pipes, undo the copper pipes then its just a nut holding them onto the subframe, then unscrew the other end out the caliper.

Its was the drivers side one that i looked at it just seems a little tight to get to. it looks like a banjo bolt.

The fluid is already drain due to waiting my new master cylinder,
so i thought i would change the hoses.

does anone know the size of the banjo bolt (top bolt)

I'm in the middle of doing the same job. I just finished the left one, which was difficult enough. I pulled down the reinforcing rubber piece and cut the hose off next to the fitting on the subframe. I got onto that with an 18mm deep socket. I chopped the brake pipe through with a chisel as I will be replacing it. I then put all my 1/2" drive extensions together and just got onto the big 15/16" nut with a socket. I went down the front face of the rad, with the ratchet sticking out above the wing. It was real tight but I got it undone. I cleaned the nut up to reuse, but then found the QH replacement hoses include a nut.

Now I'm asking the same question - the right hand one does not have direct access from above - and access from the front looks difficult.

I'm thinking I could remove the clutch release lever, and maybe undo the engine mount and jiggle the engine forward a little (maybe just taking the lever off would be enough) and then I can get access to the banjo bolt and the big nut from directly above like I did the other side.

Am I doing it right or is there an easier way.. A trick I'm missing perhaps?

Mart.

PS a little more info for anyone doing the job- the spanner size for the end of the pipe into the wheel cylinder (my car has drums) is 15mm, and when you are fitting the pipe, you should fit the wheel cylinder end first, then the chassis end making sure there is no wind up in the hose. I'll get the size of the banjo bolt tomorrow when I have another look at the job.

Take the caliper off so you can turn it instead of the hose. Then you can turn the hose instead of the pipe & fittings on t'other end.

i got a bit p**sed of :P so i just cut them;) then put the braided ones on much easier

Did the rh brake pipe today.
I got access to the banjo and big nut by removing the clutch cover.
The banjo is 5/8" or 16mm.
My clutch release plunger was siezed. I think if it was not siezed, removing the lock nuts might have just give enough clearance to remove the banjo and big nut.

Apparently you can cut a small section out of the inner wing behind the damper with a dremel. Tidy it up after, and now you have access to the banjo bolt no problem.

Driver's side can be a bit of an arse, especially if it all starts moving and bending the copper pipes while you are trying to undo it.

Best/easiest/safest method I have found for undoing the top bolt;

I have just changed all my hoses for Goodridge ones and yes the drivers side one is a B*&*tard to get to. I wedged the inner wing out slightly to get to the pipework.

I did them all at once then refilled and bled the system.

I would recommend an Eezibleed kit for bleeding its simple to do with that..

On the passenger's side yes, but not on the driver's side. :)
