Simple question i think:
What paint can i use on the engine block?
I would like to use hammerite in order to protect against rust, but i dont think it can stand the temperatures..
I bought some "very high temperature" paint from my local car place, but i dont know if this will last very long.
Any help appreciated
P.s i have cleaned and wire brushed the engine block so its all lovely and shiny.

I used a small tin of engine laquer from a local shop. I don't know how well the spray will last on a block, but Ive used it on my karts exhaust and it lasted fairly well but did start to burn off. You may get away with it as the block doesn't get anywhere near as hot as the exhaust it was on!!

there was a thread recently about blue engines, and someone posted a picture of a block painted with blue hammerite, it had been in the car for five years and overheated a couple of times, and the paint was still fine.

Been using it for years...
It's all down to prep, if the block is not clean and grease free then no matter what paint you use it will come off...
As for temperature, how hot do you think your engine gets.... ???
anything more than 100 degrees then your engine is overheating anyway so high temp paint is just a waste of money.
PS... that was my engine mentioned above...

Do you take it back to metal or just to a clean, grease and flake free surface?
I'm presuming the latter?

basically I dip the blocks... however if the engine is not coming apart then it's out with the nitromores...

Back to metal when possible.....

Oh, right. I guess that gives the bores a good chemical clean inside too, so bonus there?

I had my head off a few weeks ago so stripped it down and gave it a proper wash in the shower...I did get in a bit of trouble about the oily smears that wont go away though..
Try Homebase Paintbrush Cleaner. That worked for me!
