Next are the heelboard ends. I must not lose those hole positions...

I came up with this way of saving them:

So after I could cut

By the side, I decided to cut the rear valance just for fun

Did you ever see that much filler?

By the way, as expected, the valance was doubled even tripled at places

Your cars going to be quick weighing half what it used to, with all those extra layers of panels gone ;-)

So, winter is near, and the garage is now on ''winter mode''. It's now too cold to work on the Mini.

So, see you in 2013!

Buddy, That is some pretty amazing metal work and some serious rust.

What kind of welder are you using?

Winter time always sucks but maybe you can start stipping the motor now?

Thanks!
My welder is this one, actually, if you want the specs: http://www.canadiant...&bmLocale=fr_CA

It's a small one but it works perfectly for sheetmetal. I'm using flux-core wire 0.35mm.

The garage's other side is now full of another car. I think of working on the engine maybe in the house's basement. And that's a big maybe, because the Mini is one of many projects I have.
If I do anything I'll update this thread. I'll keep checking the forum everyday or so!

Oooooh yeah!

Guess what? Everything in my life is preventing me from working on the Mini!

Remember last summer, I lost a month because of my broken welding machine and another month because of the car accident? Well, this year it's a lot worse! :X

To make a long story short, this spring, the snow around the house melted and went down in the basement, because of three cracks in the concrete. So we spent the last weeks moving all the stuff from the basement to the garage (you see where this is going) and shoveling soil, spending quality time with the insurance company, and people who will fix the house. And all this will be paid with money that we don't have, yeeha :tumble:

SO, Mini-wise, the little beast is surrounded by all sorts of furniture and stuff, so any grinding and welding is not possible. And most of all, my time and head are occupied by all those problems that happen to us.

I'm not expecting any work on the Mini this year. And I'm guessing that next year, something else will happen, so it's an endless story. The only good point is that this project is taking so much time, that my son will be old enough to help me someday!

Hello Miniforum, it's been a long time. Over 2 years, in fact.

2013 was spent on house repairs.

2014 was spent on other small projects. (I put about 5 hours on the Mini)

2015 is already a lot better, as I just took a week off for the Mini, so that's a 40 hours right there.

Updates:

I transfered from the old floor to the new floor the seat belts reinforcement in tunnel

dTNUomI.jpg

And also the brackets for the handbrake. The new tunnel has been fitted and welded in

I took care of positionning the seat brackets on the crossmember and weld new nuts inside before welding in the crossmember

Both door steps are replaced with panels that needed quite a bit of fiddling

Sections of the rear arches had been badly repaired in the past with patches over rust, so time to do them the correct way.

Both ends of the heelboard are replaced with fresh metal too, like this

Now that all the surfaces surrounding the floor are OK, I must find a way to get it up there

Jp31wOH.jpg

At first I tought about getting the front in first, and then sliding the back into the heelboard. But that didn't turn out well, especially when I was alone to do it...

uAuEo3T.jpg

vln72nS.jpg

It was just never going to get in there

JwIWuLS.jpg

So I had to cut this line at the bottom of the toeboard, so I can get the rear of the floor first. Also, I now had the help of a friend

With the floor in place I had to weld all the four sides of it. Spot welds at the back and the sides, seam weld the front.
