But first things first, a cute little filter on the valve cover

I like your noodle protectors!
They are essential with a narrow garage and kids that like to play in the Mini!

So the clutch job:
The Haynes manual told to remove the radiator bracket to tilt the engine, but I decided to go further and to remove the rad completely, leaving the shroud. And by removing all engine steadies I was able to tilt it quite a bit.

So access to the bottom bolts of the cover was not easy, but not impossible:

And first important part off:

When undoing the very bottom bolt of the flywheel cover, it was soaking wet with oil. And there is indeed oil at the bottom of the cover. Not a good sign

I quickly made this tool to hold the ring gear in place. As I'm working alone, it's really handy. I stole the idea from a Facebook Mini page

This bolt was a pain to remove! I had it by heating it and prying it with a 4 feet pole. Plus I had to buy the 1 1/2'' box socket just for it.

I tried to save a little money by buying a general flywheel puller from Amazon. It had the right 3/8 UNF bolts, but the diameter of the puller itself was too small! Same thing with another one from a hardware store. So I returned them both, bought the real deal from Minispares and waited...
It came at the right time, because I have to speed up my winter jobs because I have to move the Mini to make space for something else that's coming soon, and was unexpected.

I was lucky to have the 15/16'' socket for this one. I came off quite easily, really easier than the previous bolt.

So that's the supposedly failing seal. Let's hope it's really the problem

I took it out with the wood screws solution... not easy to drill tiny holes in that tiny space. The primary gear came with it

I needed the tool to push the new seal in place and I found this lovely thread here that gave away a 3d model of the tool. I had it printed by a friend and look at that:
