As I had the can of high temp paint in hand and sweet nothing else to do with it, I chose to empty it on the remaining exhaust parts.

+1 for the Stage 1, that will transform your car!!
-1 for the chrome, I bet it's on the top side? But as the chrom is flaking, that seems to be a problem by coating more than transport?
There's clearly a dent at the end. I'll try to round it off the the flaking chrome will have to stay that what

I also ordered one of those thru MiniSpares and the chrome end on mine was flaking off too......not happy about it but not sending it back.
Just FYI.....I think in my case the end worked it's way thru the carboard end of the box and was damaged that way. There was plenty of material wrapped around the muffler and pipes, but not nearly enough protection on the ends of the box.
If you find David Ainley on Facebook, he sells a beautiful cover made for that hole - very easy to install and should make a good bit of difference in the noise from the engine compartment.

I broke the attachment for the throttle cable.. Luckily, I still had the old one in a box. phew

I am now rocking the ''visually apparent exhaust clamp'' style. But I don't care

In other news, I put this finishing touch in the bootlid, to hide the noise insulation material

So the first startup went very well, and I redid the timing and the mixture on the carburetor. That went well too.
It has a really nice purr, and no more fart can noise! I'm really happy with it.
HOWEVER. On the first test drive I confirmed what I've been suspecting during the last 2 or 3 rides with the Mini. The clutch is slipping...

Oh wow what a pain the last weeks were for the Mini.
On a test drive, a big noise came at 90kmh (was testing the clutch) When I opened the bonnet the safety hook flew right off! I must have put the bonnet 1mm offset and the hook came in contact with the alternator fan...
It could have been worse, It could have jumped into my face or worse, onto the underside of the bonnet or a wing.
So I lost the retaining spring. I will not drive faster than 50kmh until I get a new one, in fear of bonnet opening

But can I drive at all? Mini says no.
I went for a little trip to a store 5 minutes from home and came back on a towing truck. I even came back with my other car (a super reliable KIA) and tools and checked everything I could.
Diagnostic says the fuel pump is dead. Looks like another funny job to do with the engine in place.
