I received my boxes of noise insulation material, so begins my quest against noise.
First impression, that stuff is heavy! Each box is 26 pounds, or 12 kilos. I have two boxes of 36 square feet.

I will work my way from back to front, because the most annoying for me is that exhaust drone.
I started with the boot floor and the boot lid. I did not do the seat back because I will do it from inside. I did everything I could without removing the fuel tanks. I'll keep extra material if one day I remove the tanks.
I did one test drive and it was already noticeably quieter, so my expectations are high for what's next!

I personally think you are way overboard with this stuff. This bitumen based stuff is not sound proofing, it is panel deadening.
You do not need to add it to the whole panel.
What you need is MLV

Well, I've been recommended this stuff by local Mini friends, and customers comments. Anyways, I got the stuff so I'll install it. I'm doing one section at a time with a good test drive between each of them to see the difference.
I'll keep the MLV in mind if I need even more quietness, thanks!

Meanwhile...
Test drive confirms the exhaust is a lot less noisy. Now I hear the engine too much

I already had lots of rock chips on the rear arches, so to prevent the complete loss of the paint I cut and applied a plastic film protection. I hope it will be ok you can barely tell it's there

And I changed the gearlever for one that a local friend gave me. Mine had the plastic ball damaged and that's why I had so much trouble getting it into reverse gear. The ''new'' one is from a Moke, so it has lots a weird curvatures but it works.

I'm putting the isolation aside because I received the Stage 1 kit. It's a side exit RC40 standard bore, double box.

The only disappointing thing is that the tip of the backbox was damaged during transport. I can't really do anything about it.

I painted the manifold so it lasts longer. I chose white, so it can look at bit like a Ferrari 312 F1 car?!

+1 for the Stage 1, that will transform your car!!
-1 for the chrome, I bet it's on the top side? But as the chrom is flaking, that seems to be a problem by coating more than transport?

Mine has the same ding on the tip from transit... I was able to knock it back a very little bit with a hammer

So here's that nicely white manifold in place

Oh, and those welds don't clear the washers at all, had to improvise. Probably all of us who installed this went through the same

While I had the gaping dash hole accessible, I found a way to reduce engine noise (I hope). It's piece of masonite backed with the insulation material, and pushed into place by two brackets.
