What is that panel welded to the inside of your door frame ? under the door skin ! I have never seen that before !!!

You're talking about the sort of side-impact plate? I don't know, it looks factory to me. It has recesses for the door handle and the same panel is used left and right.

My Canadian mini has the same side impact bar. Damn thing weighs the same as the door it's self. Does yours have the catch on the underside of the door so in the case of a side impact the door doesn't fold in? I wish I had removed mine cause the paint is scratched already in the door sill nubbin thing. Just another odd thing found on Canadian minis

Yes I removed the door catches.

Look at the first page of this thread, my Mini was mostly original at that point. It had the big and high bumpers front and rear (the rear middle part was so high it was bolted to the bootlid). Reinforcements inside the front wings and the boot floor for these bumpers.

And a side effect of this was the relocated indicator lights in the grille, and a slightly different front panel.

Big rectangle side repeaters front and right.

I don't know about any differences for mechanical parts or interior, although when you look for wiring looms on Mini suppliers, there's a "canadian spec" one. Not sure what it does.

Big rubber bumpers

Ours also came with a larger heater fan located under the hood.

I believe the Canadian minis where the first to have the lever on the side of seat stopping it from tilting forward.

My 79 also came with seat belt warning light. There was a light up panel to the left of the steering on the under side of the dash that would light up if someone was sitting in a seat without the seatbelt buckled. There is a sizeable button in the foam of the seat to trigger the system and the seatbelt release had wires going to it.

Not sure why but the rear seatbelts were only lap belts with a large self retracting reel. I found this out when I ordered a replacement seat cover cause my foam had these large factory cut outs in the corner so I had to add foam for them to fit.

Everything was to meet safety standards.

Door skin on door frame, this went quite well. It's a pattern panel and it fitted perfectly, no play at all. I went only with a hammer and pliers.

First try on the car, the gaps are not bad but the door is too much "outside" the A-panel, so it doesn't open...

After many hours any fiddling with the hinges it finally fits! I'll leave the final adjustments to the body shop to do.

Welcome to 2018, the 10th year of this resto....

The right side door didn't fit at all, it was too long and couldn't even close, probably because I changed all of the A post years before. My dad had the idea to use a body jack to ''make space'' for the door. I wasn't really sure about this, so we tried really slowly... and it worked!

Basically, this between the hinge panel and the door catch panel. A bit of pumping motion, and done.

I know my pics are crap
