By the way it's a Ford colour, it's called Vermillion Red. Pictures don't do justice, but it's the reddest of reds. It's also the colour of my dad's 1999 Ford pickup.
I've asked myself lately if I wanted it blue or white, but red always came back as the answer. Red seem to be a common colour for Minis, but Minis aren't common at all here, so it doesn't bother me.

These boxes showed up and my bank account melted. Oh well.
In short, I bought every bolt, nut, washer new, as well as everything rubber and all bearings, brakes, shocks, cones and stuff. Not supposed to buy anything else to put it on its wheels.
Meanwhile I cleaned and painted the parts I'm keeping

Got my son's help here to unroll the new fuel line. Maybe he will get more involved now that the grinding and welding is done for now.
Fuel line, brake line, battery cable and rear subframe on for good!
Steering rack on, with new hardware. It's a old spare rack I had with the car.

Yes, when I was choosing a colour for my '68 Mustang I was looking through the red swatch book for the reddest red. I selected Vermillion red not knowing it was a colour used on Mustangs much later so it was a pleasant surprise.

Fitted new shock plates at the front
I put these back, they're some sort of towing plates. I had them, so why not put them back.
Lowers arms
Adjustable tie rods. I was renewing all bolts and bushes anyway, so I thought why not these, they're not that expensive...but I ended up accidentally ordering two SETS, so it became expensive for nothing...oh well

Hi,
what exactely do adjustable tie rods do ?
Can you feel any play in your top arm repair kits ? I'm having a job finding kits that are tight and have no play, a tiny bit of play on the axe will mean loads of play further out towards the wheel.
I'm having the same problem with my MG TF, arm repair kits, which I think are the same as the mini, are rubbish and have loads of play.

Adjustable tie rods adjust the caster angle I think. I like myself a good alignment, but couldn't justify the price of the adjustable lower arms, yet. I'll see when the car is on the road.
The top arm kit seems pretty good, I cannot feel any play by hand. It came from Minispares

Hi, long time no see, how's your Mini going?
I'm on fire indeed this year. The house doesn't need any work anymore, so...we sold it! Yes we're moving probably this winter, closer to Montreal. I will have a much smaller garage, that's why I try to do as much work as possible now.
I want the Mini back on it's wheels before Christmas and fit the doors, bonnet and boot next, so I won't have any welding and grinding to do at the new house.
Probably not on the road next summer, but 2018 would be cool, for it's 40th anniversary.
