Hi all just thought this may save someone a bit of head scratching.

got a cheap quickshift (rod change) eagerley fitted it low & behold couldn't select 3rd,4th or reverse. :)

my solution: remove the circlip from the bottom of the stick take off the nylon ball you will see it's not very round, the centre is fine you need to round off the top & bottom
to the inner edge of the hole through the middle so it ends up nice & round like a marble, I used 80 girt paper to take off the bulk of the material then 320 grit to polish.
Great all four gears selected but still no reverse, I removed the bottom plate from the rod change & measured the lift needed to clear the stop to select reverse, i found this to be 5-6mm more than i was getting on the quickshift, i took the quickshift apart to shorten the cable thus lifting the plunger higher but thought this would be to hit & miss with the recrimping so i ground the stop down on the bottom plate of the rod change i used a bench grinder but a burr in an electric drill will do the same.
All's good now

Do both jobs VERY GRADUALLY and keep trying the fit. :dontgetit:
