Out of interest, what fault code reader are you using?

Yes its an ODB 2 connector
If your temp sensor is faulty you will be getting High or Low readings on the Water temp gauge.
Usually if your getting idling issues this is caused by the ICV (blue plug) to the left of the throttle body, located on the inlet manifold.
Easy way to fix it is to take it off and give it a good clean with petrol or cleaning solution.
Other issue could be Inlet Air Temp sensor (IAT) green plug located on the inlet manifold. This works in conjuction with the ICV and the Water Temp Sensor to determin the correct ammount of fuel and air at idle.
Also when does the car idle funny? Is it when its cold or warm?
