Changes you need to update

You’ll need to tell the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) about the following changes to your vehicle:

* colour
* engine
* cylinder capacity
* fuel type (propulsion)
* replacing or modifying the chassis/monocoque bodyshell
* seating capacity
* weight of a goods vehicle

not seen that bit before

If you go under 8 points or if you modify the monocoque.

What is classed as a modification to the monocoque may be the grey area, I guess?

I mean, if you trim your front arches to fit 13" wheels, you're going to be OK.

If you chop out a part of your cross member to fit a turbo box, they're going to want to check out what you've done.

There are definite rules, but as said earlier, rules are down to different peoples' interpretations.

but it clearly states that cars 10 years or younger will not req the test therefore if your modifications are satisfactory for mot standards then you fine

The way I read it is your car ceases to be the one it was and becomes a newly built one if you excite the dvla enough to make you have an IVA.

The ten years is aimed at unmolested vehicles that can prove their age, on the assumption they were built under comparable regulations to the UK - imported 2nd hand production cars. - perhaps I'm muddling your point with the BIVA/IVA differences. I think my first point still stands and it's more likely to be a free pass for all those MGB's 'n E types those awfully decent chaps in the foreign office who might want to bring back when they finish their stint for a commonwealth consulate

yes agreed however it can be taking that if you start "modifying" a car over 10 years old then it will not req a check?

qoute "when a car does NOT require a IVA check = when is 10 years old or older 25 years for a commercial."

loop hole in a grey area perhaps?

just thought it would help you guys at a vosa check etc

Who knows, but since the dvla will be judge & jury I wouldn't rely on it.

What it means is that if the car was modified to an extent as to lose its original identity (radically altered) over ten years ago, notified to DVLA and you can proove that and it has had no changes since and has been insured and mot'd as such then you may not be required to have an IVA test.
However they can still enforce a Q registration on that vehicle.

Your car can be 30 years old and if you modify it and you lose enough points of the original car OR you modify the chassis/monocoque structure your car WILL be required to undertake an IVA.

I hope this clears things up.

There are no loopholes to exploit, they are running things very strictly now.

no clearly states a iva check is NOT required on a car (not modifications) 10 years old or older (not that the mods were done 10 years ago)

just to let you know i am not in need of a check i just seen the length of this topic and seen many failed to pic up on it, just thought i would draw your attention to it

also its 25 year old for commercials

I'd still haven't seen a car that has fallen foul of the IVA yet..... Has anyone?

What are they doing to them to cause problems as they are separate chassis so you'd have to do a lot on them to need an IVA

its not going to stop me putting a turbo box in my minis bulkhead. ill still do it without even thinking of this stupid iva test, that everyone seems to be so keen on having done.
