Hi, just bought some new brake pads. went for green stuff as I thought, being more expensive they would be better quality and help stopping abilities.

just read on another post that green stuff work less well because they need to heat up to be any good. now im confused.

which is better for road use, green stuff or standard ?

thanks.

( didnt think having a mini could be so bl++++dy complicated !

EBC green stuff is fine, used them myself, only problem I found was cleaning the brake dust off more?

Might just be my heavy pedal use approach though? :)

with any car i have or have owned, the first mod i do is put Green Stuff pads in. They do work well from cold but as people are saying already, they work even better when warm.

i dont tend to get much brake dust, and hell of a lot less than standard or mintex pads. they have even improved it more in the last year or so, to produce less dust but those new pads are only trickling into the UK as old stocks deplete.

I have them on my cooper S setup, and to be honest, they dont feel like they are working as they should, they have had plenty of miles to bed in. but they do not work when cold. However, they work awesome when they are hot, but i feel like im braking more than i should to keep them upto temperature which is why im going to be changing them.

Burnard, you do need to run them in more than 200miles first matey. Less than 500 miles is not enough in my opinion for maximum efficiency and EBC recommend 600miles on the box.

EBC pads have a running in coating for better than average stickyness during the running in period but expecting any pad to be supersticky from new is just foolish and dangerous to other drivers.

I have to agree with Burnard, for me on the Cooper S caliper they aren't up to it. There's not enough contact area I'd guess. I have found a Mintex compound to be better.

I've also got Green Stuff pads on my 1990 Mini Cooper with the standard 8.4" brake set-up and I can't fault them. Plus I'm getting virtually zero brake dust which is also good.

green stuff create less brake dust.

i ran green stuff before and they were rubbish compared to the mintex pads. i will never use any other pad.

Well horses for courses and I've not tried Mintex pads myself. Although from my own experience I find EBC Green Stuff pads to be far superior to standard brake pads, because where as I remember getting the odd bit of brake fade from bog standard pads whilst hurtling around the mountains here in Taffyland during the Summer. I've not yet managed to cook my Green Stuff pads and they just work without any problems.

Plus it also saves me a fortune on 'Wonder Wheels', as my front alloy wheels never get any dirtier than the rears.

I had EBC green and found then poor I had to get them very hot to work, I then changed to 4 pots using standard road pads and they were not as good as they could be so changed to ebc black pads and found them to be very good.
