Model:sprite
Year:1993
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):erratic indicators

Recently my indicators are being very random, past month. Sometimes they work, sumtimes they dont. So i assume its not a fuse, and its a loose connection?
Wondering if there may be a loose connection in the barrell behind the steering wheel? I also noticve that sumtimes when i flick my wiper stalk UP, my indicator stalk on the other side goes DOWN, can this be tightened in any way?

Cheers!
:P

Take off the steering column cowl, the stalk switches are held to the column by a clamp. Tighten the clamp if it's loose, you might find it has snapped. If it has, you need a new indicator switch. The indicator problem might not be related to that though.

I have exactly this problem in my 95 Cooper - the whole wiper/lights/indicator stalks assembly spins around on the steering column when I use the wipers. I've tried tightening the clamp as far as it'll go and still it slips round (is there a securing screw I'm missing somewhere..?!)

I may resort to bodgery next and whack a bit of tape between the steering column and the clamp to pad it out a bit...

Dan - you are learned, wise and above all - absolutely right!

The clamp securing the stalks to the steering column has snapped, which would explain why it's slipping round...

djshongo, I hope this is the answer to your problem too!
