Have seen a few at shows - they seem to be reasonably rare but not worth much!

They really are one of the only special editions that some thought went into other than stickers and badges... Especially nice to see if the centre console is still there...

The first of over 40 limited edition Minis, the 1979 1100 Special was produced to mark the 20th anniversary of Mini production. With only 5100 produced, it featured metallic paint (Rose or Silver) with side stripes, a vinyl roof, matt black wheel arches, tinted glass, twin door mirrors, alloy wheels, side indicators, locking petrol cap, and Clubman-style chrome bumpers. The engine, a 45bhp 1100cc from the Clubman model, gave this car a top speed of 84mph with a 0-60 in 16.6 seconds. The interior came with a sports steering wheel, a centre console with a fitted radio, clock, and lighter, and a storage cubby beneath the dashboard on the passenger side. Upholstered seats )blue tartan fabric) and carpeting finished the luxury effect.

Rumour has it that these were the fastest rusting Minis... I don't know if that's true, but my dad would probably have said so when he rebuilt his 17 years ago:

First car I ever went in, doubt it's still around, I think it probably got scrapped.

As far as i can see it IS all origional. I was going to leave it, but he called yesterday and offered it to me for £600. So even if i just leave it sat on the drive under a tarp untill I have finished mine, I may be a good investment.

But then as time moved on they began getting rarer. I wouldn't say they were the fastest rusting Minis, they faired no different to most. It was the mid 1980's metallic coloured Minis (especially silver) that seemed to come with rot as standard.
But they were the only Mini to ever come with a Cigar lighter as standard and they were very plush for their time. That centre console seemed to agree with lots of people because BL had to double the production figures to meet the demand.
