why do my speakers sound rubbish i have fitted them in the kick boards but they sound well tinny and when i turn the base up it distorts they are 150 watt rms which i know is not mint but they should sound better i think i am also gonna fit a set to the back shelf but are they gonna sound just as rubbish. should i amp all the speakers up will this improve the sound. my stereo is a kenwood which has an output of 50 watt per speaker
should i change just one of the wires around and unplug the other until it sounds good then do the same as before

That's an output of 50W max per channel...normally it'll be around 17W RMS. Turning up the volume all the way on the HU will result in clipping - instead of a nice sinusoidal wave output, it'll be much more like a square wave. Speakers don't like this one bit, and this causes distortion. Do it for long enough and your speakers will be permanently damaged.

So yes, amping the speakers, and setting the gains carefully and correctly will make them sound better. However, they shouldn't really sound tinny even when powered from the HU, I'm not sure why that is the case?

If one speaker has been wired out of phase (wires back to front) they will sound very tinny with no bass.

The only suggetion is that u ain't got good enough speakers personally I have jbl 300 watt ones and they are brilliant .
the wires on the other hand being the wrong way doesn't matter due to that a speaker has no polarity which means it will work either way :)

That's not quite right, westpark.
If the speakers are in opposite phase, it will make them sound rubbish.

And the power rating of the speakers is how much it can take, a good 100w speaker will sound the same at 50w as a good 400w one, it's a matter of the amplification.
I would imagine that what you are describing, OP, is a result of the puny HU internal amp, any speakers will sound better and bassier with an amp.

i have jbl 300ws under the rear seats, and sound quite good, im guessing you have an up to date headunit, maybe you need to play around with the settings a bit?

Sounds like the wires are the wrong way around. Yes the polarity matters.

I would say, wiring the other way round changing the polarity, which apparently the human ear cant hear. Just what i think.

when the wires are the other way there is no bass and loads of distortion try it. with the wires the right way it sounds like music again
