If you have both, and both are actually functional and connected to something, one is low oil pressure and the other is blocked oil filter. Both mean stop and turn the engine off NOW.

Hay ho,

Pretty sure they corrispond to the smaller gauges either side of your speedo. e.g left hand one for water temp right hand one for oil prssure.
Mr Haynes doesn't cover them directly but if you look at the wiring diagrams i'm pretty sure they are part of them.

Will everyone please read the large pink notice at the top of every technical section page.

When fitted as OE, if the car had extra gauges with the centre speedo the oil pressure warning lamp was not fitted. The oil filter lamp was still used on early cars (except automatics) even with an oil pressure gauge but was deleted at Mk3 I believe.

what Dan says is right :(

But if you aren't fussed about originality you can do the following with a slight rewire

use the orange for left and right indicators

the green for oil pressure warning

red for ignition

It is unlikely that you have a sensor filter head because they are quite rare so it's probably a low oil pressure warning. To be honest the lamps are pretty much interchangeable depending on where they are pushed into the instrument, if you can look behind it you can see what colour wire runs to it and check if there is an oil pressure switch on the engine with the same colour wire. The lamps are nothing to do with the temperature gauge.

Please don't write in TXT SPK.

My brother has a 1960's morris minor 1000 and it has the exact same clock, on his morris the blue is for full beam, the red is for the charging of the battery, the left orange is not used it is just to be symetrical and the right orange is for the oil filter, the mini is based on the morris minor 1000 to some extent and uses a lot of the same parts so what I have told you about the warning lights should be correct.

I have 1998 1.3 mpi mini cooper so unfortunatly I cant help much when it comes to earlyier minis

Hope this is of some help
