no one has mentions it so i will, the full bean is switched via the left hand steering column stalk. maby the stalk or the connectors inside the stalk are stuck on. meaning you constantly have full beam on.

take the steering column shroud off and have a gander

wouldnt you expect the flasher (pulling towards you) to not work if this was the case? mine was bent just a little bit toward the main beam part and wouldnt reach the flash.
this is why i hadnt mentioned it.

so does your flash not work? it sounds like your full beam is on all the time

Check whether the main beam filaments in the headlamps are also running dimly, switch the lamps on and then check if one gets any dimmer when you disconnect the blue/white wire for that lamp from the bullet cluster behind the grille. Assuming your car has those connectors that is, you haven't said what Mini it is and it's hard to know what we're dealing with unless you do. All Minis are not the same.

Obviously not!
I would hazard a guess at a poor earth connection somewhere, probably at the bullet connectors under the slam panel.

my mini:

1. sidelights - no blue light
2. headlights - blue light
3. main beam - brighter blue light

Had to get a spark to fix mine, seems the fault was to do with the alternator for sum weird reason?!
Hope this helps!

well i have just been out having a play with it, and when we have the engine running and rev it up abit, the light flickers, which im guessing is a poor earth:P

but the other interesting thing is that, when we were comparing the difference between dipped and non dipped, it didnt actually dip it :D

it hard to explain, but if u imagen a rectangle of light being produced when the headlight is on, when the headlight isnt dipped the whole rectangle is lit up,

but when you apparently dip the lights, just the bottom half of the rectangle of light goes off, leaving what i would say as the headlight still pointing into the oncoming traffics eyes:/

sorry for the terrable explanation:P

thanks

When you dip the lights the lower light pattern disappears? That's completely the wrong way around, I think there is some cross pollination in your cluster of bullet connectors. Make sure that each of the black bullet blocks behind the grille only has wires of the same colour connected to it. All the blue/white to one connector and all the blue/red to another. All the blacks to one and all the red and red/green to another etc.

hello again

we have just been out to check the headlight wiring, and all seems fine.

we have found when headlights are switched on, and stalk in rear facing position, blue/white wire (main beam) power is on, and blue and red wire (dipped) has no power.

with stalk in forward position, blue/white wire has power and blue/red wire also has power.

this is the same on both near side and offside

it looks to me like with stalk towards rear power should be on blue/red not blue/white?

how do we correct this?

also can someone please confirm that when the dip stalk is pushed away from you, should this be dipped or main beam?

thanks:)

Pushed away should be full beam.

Where are you taking your tests of which wires have power?

The wires are obviously crossed over somewhere, if not at the slam panel connectors then maybe where the stalk plugs into the loom (although I find this less likely).
