i have been working with electric cars recently, and have been using large relays/isolators/contactors (what ever you want to call them). basicall big relays that are inserted into the positive cable. these only require 6-12V to activate the relay and we get a tap direcly off the battery with a switch to then turn on/off the main battery supply. this has the advantage of not requiring a big red key (that people still misplace) and the small switch can be hidden any where. the terminals can then be coted in expoxy, making it difficult to remove them or short them! you could also place the contactor on the earth instear... they wont be expecting that

Cheers everyone - a lot to think about!
A mate of mine also suggested fitting a switch in between the +ve feed to the coil and hiding that, that way the starter motor will just turn and turn but you wont get any power to the coil so it wont start. That way you can disguise this small switch somewhere. What does everyone think of that?

why not get the discarnect one.....or however its spelt...works the same as others linked exced it has a small bypass wire with a fuse big enough only to run things like alarm...stereo presets and clocks..and if someone tried to start the car..the small fuse blows anyway and they can't start it
