I think all modern minis should have petrol poured on them and set alight, they mock the heritage of the classic mini
Bit of a mini moan here, but i also hate seeing them at mini shows, bugger off and get ure own shows, leave the classics alone!!

Better still why don't you 'bugger off'...............you are entitled to your opinion but as a classic and modern MINI owner I don't think your extreme comment 'I think all modern minis should have petrol poured on them and set alight' is acceptable on this forum which is BMW MINI tolerant if you bother to read the Forum Guidelines:
"TMF is BMW MINI tolerant and posts that are in any way offensive towards owners of BMW MINI's will be removed and the forum member will be warned (min warning level 1) - continual disregarding of the guidelines will result in further action being taken."

Philip, I was NOT getting offended by your opinion on the new MINI Countryman, as I said you are entitled to your opinion.
I was only offended by your comment:
Quote:
'I think all modern minis should have petrol poured on them and set alight'
If that really is a true reflection of your thoughts and feelings for other peoples MINI's just because they own or like a different Mini to you, then I am lost for words...........
If it was just a 'throw away statement' or a 'joke' then it was in bad taste and not very funny to those on the receiving end.
I would be just as offended if you had made that statement about classic Mini's.........as I'm sure would many others here on TMF.

From Autocar:
"When you drive it, hopefully you'll see its fun to drive with traditional Mini handling," he said "The iconic shape is still there, too. We want to build on Mini's success and this sits within the brand. I'm happy with it."
OMG XD There is NO comparison at all. I learned to drive in a One series, out of it and Monty the handling and fun factor goes undoubtedly to Monty and no, I'm not just saying that. The One series handles like it's got square wheels... and they said that had traditional handling too! These guys need to take their heads out of their collective behinds!
This is yet another unnecessary 4x4 badged with a popular name in an attempt to foist it off on brand-slaves.

And I thought I had strong feelings about BMW.
Sorry, but I burst out laughing after reading that and no I'd never do such a thing and I'm sure you wouldn't either.

What are they thinking of?
I really don't mind the normal binis, especially the cooper s, even thinking of buying one as our 'normal, everyday, nothing special' car.
BUT little by little I can see BMW, with all these new variants, slowly moving the bini as far away from the original mini as a fiesta or punto or corsa etc etc is, and this new 'countryman' just confirms my fears
After all, the proper countryman/traveller did look like a mini. This new countryman even struggles to look like a bini.
NOT a bini bash, just my opinoin.
My wife owns a MINI Clubman and I've always thought of it as a nice car in it's own right. It's one of the few small cars I can drive and I find it really comfortable. What I don't understand is why BMW are reusing / abusing the classic Mini names but not even trying to go for the same style. Wasn't the countryman a split back door (as in boot, not rear seat) and wood panelling? Did any of the original Minis have 4 door (as in rear seat) versions?
So now the Mini Countryman becomes a 5 door Punto?
Please BMW, just call it a 4 door MINI or MINI 4x4 and stop alienating the classic owners

Could someone point me at photos of the original Countryman and the original Clubman please, especially including the rear
Lovely: -
The wood is not structural and there was an all steel version too which was a bit cheaper: -
Apart from that there was no 4 door Mini built at Longbridge or Cowley.
This site is pretty good: -
