It could be that when washing the car you have flushed some grit into the drum - quite possible with the weather n' all.

Take off the drum and clean it out and check the shoes at the same time.

I recently had the same problem. Mine was because i'd replaced the backplate with a second hand one but used the original brake drum. So it scrapes ever so slightly could be the same problem or dirt and brake dust building up under the drum cover.

You say more cost, but rear shoes are literally about £6 from halfords.

And they are so simple to replace. Theyre a wear and tear, serviceable item. Its to be expected.

it could however be that your rear shoes arent adjusted correctly and washing your car has caused moisture to settle within the drum. This then causes surface rust on the drum face. This should wear off but if your shoes arent adjusted correctly then they wont make full contact to clean the face.

Go to a car park, pull your handbrake on a couple of clicks so the handbrake is on, but you can still drive. Pull off and see if the noise goes. If it doesnt, you need shoes.
