I want to fit a fuse box to run a small ceramic heater off drawing 15 amps draw from this and my radio and phone charger etc. I have some cable capacity of it is 60Amps which I will run to a junction box and then split to my second fuse box for my devices. Is it ok to take a tap for this off the solenoid or should I run it directly from the battery? Will the battery cable of the car be capable of all the amps I will be drawing from it if I take it from the solenoid. The solenoid would be easier.

Thanks

Go directly from the Battery, if you want it triggered so it only comes on from the axillary position on the ignition, then put a relay in the system which is then signalled from the existing mini loom.

Youn can take it from the solenoid....... however to do this you really would need to add a relay to switch it via the auxilliary circuit of the ign sw. this will then cut out the extra circuits as you turn the key to start the engine

Dont suppose you could provide a quick list of where to connect the relay. I would like it live even when the engine is off.

Thanks

Live all the time as want to run audio equipment off it and would like to use the radio without the ignition on.

Thanks

I used a Painless Wiring 3-circuit fuse box to do pretty much the same thing. Takes power straight from the battery to the unit which intern has a built in relay to protect the rest of the system. It has one "constant hot" circuit and 2 ignition keyed. There is also a 7 circuit unit if youre so inclined. Painless calls them a"Cirkit Boss". The only thing i wasnt pleased with was the lead to the stock fuse box to power the relay. You can see in the install instructions on there web site that its a small brass strip that goes around the fuse. My car has ATO fuses so i was able to find a connector at my local auto parts store that plugs in to the fuse holder that i could run the lead to.

I would mount an auxilary fusebox either on the bulkhead next to the other if there is space or inside the car on the otherside of the bulkhead or under the dash. Then run a fair size cable straight from the starter solenoid (as this is shorter than from the battery and the bulkhead already has rubber grommets to run the cable through the bulkhead) and split it to all the fuses. Then you will have 4 fuses to tap off.

That must be tight against the carb :D

How much clearance do you have?? I would be worried about engine rock when you pull away.

I rewired my own front loom and mounted all the fuses in the dash, 15 in total and one spare. The wet can't get them as easily this way.

miles away from the carb but misses the air filter by about 10mm, i can just remove the fuse box cover

The reason some circuits are switched off whilst the engine is being cranked over is to reduce current over the main battery leads and allow as much current as possible to the starting system...............

Putting the relay in the AUX system does this safely :D

Engine off but ignition on, is the AUXILLIARY circuit..... and when driving along the AUX is live..... it only cuts out whilst cranking the engine
