I had my mother fetch me an oil filter for the other mini while I was away today, and GMF said two came up for the reg number she gave. They're both MANN filters, which I assume is fine, but one is shorter than the other. Does this just mean the larger one will last longer? The seals are both identical.

Are the threads the same ( one might be for an MPi )
Back to the question, technically yes the bigger of the two should provide better service however, you'll be changing it in 6 months anyway...

The larger one would have to be twice as long to be any use, then you could change it every other oil change.

What a pain that turned out to be, entirely my fault though. The taller one which had the same dimensions as the Unipart one that came off turned out to have a slightly too large thread! But did I dry fit to see if it fit first? Ofcourse not.
The other, shorter one, went on fine though but now I cant take the other one back! I feel pretty daft for trying to rush to finish to be fair, but hey lesson learned ALWAYS dry fit before filling up the new filter!
Any chance the mpi thread is bigger, and thats what the taller one is meant to fit? Because in that case I'll have one ready for the next time I change the Cooper's oil.
