Also which do I have?? I've got a metro turbo engine???

Many thanks

you have a remote gearbox.

the rod change is the 'magic wand' type fitted to early cars

Thats correct. A metro engine/box will be rod.

3 different things. Remote is the big aluminuim casting that is on early coopers etc. Rod change is the later system & 'magic wand' is what the early standard cars had.

Correct!!

Remotes aren't only on Coopers, standard late 60s and early 70s as well

Jees !

Magic wand, early minis (I think @ MK2 restricted to 850's and commercials) with the long gearstick which leaves the cabin at the foot of the bulkhead...

Remote, Coopers and all minis upto about 73, big long aluminium casing from the back of the gearbox to the gearstick

Rod, 73 onwards, two rods ( the upper one of which is a stabiliser ) connected to the read of the gearbox

I'm pretty sure the MK3 Mini 850 retained the magic wand up to when the rod change was fitted to all models in 1973.

All Mini Coopers and Cooper S plus the MK2 Mini 1000 (except the 850) and early Clubman's got the remote change.

All Mini models and variants got the rod change from 1973.
