Hi
Just received the stage 1 kit for my son's 1989 998cc mini. It came with a new inlet manifold which needs to be connected to the water cooling system. But none of these extra parts were included in the kit (which annoyed me a little). So does anyone know where the coolant system needs to be modified to branch off into the inlet manifold.
Will be taking the engine out this weekend - everything is prepared but just need the engine hoist.
Cheers

not to be picky but its actually a water heated inlet maifold. if you want to connect it up just take the pipe off of the tap for the heater and run it to the manifold, then another pipe to the tap. (assuming the cooling system is still standard)
however most people dont bother connecting it up as its not really woth the hassle, i havent.

Can do it using the heater valve pipe which goes to the cylinder head.

thats how id do it.. run a pipe from the heather take off on the head through the manifold and back into the heater pipework but if you want my honest opion.. dnt bother.. not worth the hassle!

You can look at it's function in two ways. It heats the manifold on startup and cools it when it's up to temp or getting a bit too hot!

im almost certain that inlet manifolds dont get hot, they might get warm as there next to the exaust but think how cold the carb is all the time!
correct me if im wrong but im pretty certain the water heated manifold does no cooling at all

very true but ive plumbed one in before and never again as for what you have to do to fit it and what you gain.. donet add up really.. yes ull have the added temp on startup but as the engine temp rises and 80-90+ degree water runs through the inlet your heating up the charge even more so than the exhaust manifold sat underneath in... decent exhaust wrap with water pipes not used in my opinoin is the beter choice but its each to there own isnt it.. who am i to say its right or wrong.. just my bit...lol. P.s we never fit them at work either (Surf Blue Mini Garge)

Thanks for this - So you just leave the pipes on the inlet manifold open or do you plug them.
There is also a threaded hole which on my existing inlet manifold is planked (with a plate, not a screw in blank). What is this hole for and is there a special part ot blank this off is not required.
The kit did not come with any fitting instructions even though they said it came with comprehensive ones. I will email them to get them (the kit only came a few hours ago)

basically i would just fit it as you would but leave the water pipe open or exposed if you like.. The whole your refreeing to could be the servo take off.. its a vacumn take off for cars fitted with a servo.. if yours has a servo you will need to connect this up using a banjo bolt *should be used on the inlet your removing* if you do not have a servo you can buy blanking plugs from mini specialists. i think its 5/8ths thread but not 100%

just leave the outlets on the manifold open, its just a straight pipe so itll be fine,
the threaded hole is for a vacuum take off for a brake servo. if you dont have one you just need a bolt to blank it off. where did you get this stage 1 kit from because it doesnt sound very good if it didnt even come with a blank.

I will check the bag of bits tomorrow (mostly exhaust fittings). I got it from Mini Sport.
I will leave the cooling/heating pipes - thanks for the info, I would have struggled to install this.
I don't have the servo so I will need to blank the extra hole
Cheers everyone
