All the solenoid does is chucks the starter gear into the right position with the flywheel - it is the actual motor that spins the engine over.

Sounds like you have a power issue at the starter......

if you have a seperate solenoid on the wing then ignore the above

yeah but my solonoid wouldent hold itself in just kept clicking in and out, thats if i turn the key but if i bridge it, it works fine?

Have you checked all the connections are tight and clean??

Is it a standard carb'd model??

yeah its pretty much standard, my mate is on his way over with his relay so i can say yes or no to it being the issue.

i will double check all my connections wen i go back out in a mo.

The reason i ask is that my carb'd mini doesn't have a starter relay so i am guessing you have an spi type model?

Some carbed minis do have starter relays, mine has (1990 998 with hs4 carb;
