THE PLANK , eric sykes, tommy cooper jimmy tarbuck and more, hilarious british film, british films at there best,

the title says it all, a film about a plank of wood (floor board)

many mini's through out the film

although they all could be the same one,

there are two versions to this film, if your gona get it make sure you get the eric sykes & tommy cooper version (feature lenght)
there is another with eric sykes & Arthur lowe basicaly the same funny film but only about half an hour long

Check out the Sweeney / The Professions / Minder all on ITV4 there's always a mini in the back ground and some great other 70s / 80s cars. Also in some of the Bond films there are a lot of Mokes crashing and getting blown up. :geek:

Allegedly, there's an early Mk1 ('59) that can be seen for a split second behind the scenery during the chariot race in Ben Hur.

And the Ford film about the 1966 Le Mans called "This time tomorrow" has loads of minis in the background, and a Mini Marcos in the racing.

Watched an old episode of The Saint on Sunday, ITV3? , stupid plot about a prototype rally car but some great stock shots of 60's rallying including lots of Minis. I think I spotted GRX 55D in there.

There was a mid 80's TV series I think called "Driving Ambition" where some bored housewife had her cooking mini modded to a spaceframed silhouette, and raced it???

I don't see how that's possible frankly. Ben Hur was released in November '59, following what would have had to be many months of editing by hand at that time, after a six month shoot in Italy. The Mini was launched in August in the UK and then progressively across the world. I find it hard to believe there were any being driven in Italy while the film was in production.

'The Man Who Knew Too Little' has a good chase.

However, whilst this isn't a film, the new series of Doctor Who, specifically the Chris Eccleston series, Rose Tyler's boyfriend Mikey has 2 minis throughout the series :o

A yellow one in episode one - 'Rose' , he's sat inside it just before he gets eaten by a wheeliebin ;)

And in the very last last, episode 13 - 'The parting of the ways', he's pulling the console of the TARDIS with a little black mini with a union jack roof ;)

Ere, sorry to rain on your parade but that yellow one was an old style VW Beetle. I did have some screengrabs of the green Sportspack Mini Cooper, but I deleted them a while back.

Yes the racing Mini was provided by Peter Baldwin. It had a Mini Clubman style flip front and a Ford engine. The housewife came fourth overall (she led the field for ages though) but she won her class.

A slightly battered blue MK2 Morris Mini appears in the anarchist film 'Britannia Hospital' (1982)which sees Malcolm McDowell of 'A Clockwork Orange' fame reprise the name of Mick Travis yet again (even though he insists the Mick Travis's he played in 'If' (1968) & 'O' Lucky Man' (1973) were actually different characters and yes I've got all these films on DVD: -

The old lady driving this blue Mini cuts up Leonard Rossiter's character whose driving an equally battered MK1 Escort (you can just make it out behind the Mini). Oh and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) appears in the film drugged up to his eyeballs. Very bizarre film.
