Just noticed your Dad isn't wearing a mask, risky stuff!

Yeh what's that they say about old dogs. :)

another ornage clubby estate! looks like my one! same colours etc, i probably got a little less work to do than yourself, but will be keeping my eye on this one, u going for original colour? or something different?

There seem to be quite a few about at the moment. Yours looks pretty solid, I hope for your sake you don't need to do as much welding as me. I think I'm going to go metallic red but that's still subject to change.

Do I spy a Hillman Imp?

Rebuild looks good, you've got skills, should be good once finished!
Keep up the good work!

Thanks Dave it's coming along nicely, yes that is a Hillman Imp. It's getting 5" arch flares, stiletto engine with a lightened flywheel and lots of rust bits repaired.

Got some more done today but not much.

Finished up the remaining plug welds on the floor pan and seam welded it inside and out.

Posted Image

I'm pretty proud of how far my weldings come along since I started this project.
Posted Image

Finished of the welding on the repair section I started welding in about a month ago. :)
Posted Image

And I found a hole in the spare wheel well, now do I repair this or go flat bot floor. :D

It's very fun and certainly a good way of learning new skills.

Today Martin cut the rust out of the A pillar and made a plate that I welded in.
Posted Image

I also seam welded the end of the sill.
Posted Image

After we'd spent a while straightening out the floor I welded in a new piece of section and also welded in the heel board.
Posted Image

Posted Image

I didn't get much done after that as I was busy ogling my new bargain tool box. 8)
Posted Image

Also had these turn up a few days ago, more on what I'm going to do with them latter.

Haven't made much progress recently as I've been working my other job but got some rather crucial bit's done.

Having replaced the inner sill I needed to reinstate some seat belt anchorages so I measured the other side of the car and drilled a pair of holes.
Posted Image

Made one new anchorages out of some nice thick steel and bolted them in place.
Posted Image

Got Dad to weld these one as their strength is rather crutial to my safety. :withstupid:
Posted Image

While I was working yesterday Martin measured up for the subframe mount and welded it in.
Posted Image

This evening I welded on the outer sill.
Posted Image

It's sooooo easy to do when the cars on the rotisserie.

Thanks Craig that means a lot. It's taken a while to get here (about 7 months :)) but it's been well worth taking the extra time to do thing properly.

Just a little update. I haven't done anything on this this week as I've been busy elsewhere but Dad and the lads at the work shop got a shed load done for me.

I now have a a wing and A panel on the drivers side.
Posted Image

Martin made a plate for the flitch and that's now welded in.
Posted Image

He made the heelboard/arch closing box which is also welded in now.
Posted Image

And they also reskined my drivers door.

gettin there mate! im currently replacing the floor pans, door steps, inner wings, a-panels etc on my orange estate, doing it a similar way to yourself by cutting out the floor pan and letting in new steel sections cut from new floor panels, but my girlfriends dads mate says im bodging it, as it makes more sense to replace the whoe floor pan seeing as i had the whole thing, but i just told him to keep his opinions to himself as im trying to keep it with as much original steel in as possible.... :) that told him lol keep up the good work!

Good on you. :) It's you car as long as the work your doing safe then there's no problem. My floor pan is overlapped, seam welded and plug welded to the car all the way around, I don't think it could get much stronger.

I decided to something a bit radical today and turned my formally solid shell.
Posted Image

Into a solid shell with a big hole in the boot. :D
