You'll have seen he said its for the new filler neck location then :(
Not keen on the idea myself but then its not my car. why would there be sparks from the lights, i thought it was the idea to turn your car and lights off when you're filling up?

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll be honest I'm not really sure why the lights would spark. :P

There will be a nice cover over the back of it just to tidy thing up a little though. I'm also thinking of fitting an electric popper and a gas strut to the light so I can press a button inside the car and have it open by it's self. :genius:

I suppose I was just thinking you could short the fuelling nozzle against the body if it touched a positive somehow, although I guess it would only be positive if the lights were on, and even then the likelyhood would be quite small. It's just that wires equal electricity, electricity and petrol equals BANG. Just an instinctive thing to think I guess!

I had thought/am thinking about somehow spring loading it but I haven't figured out a good way of doing it yet. :P

Aston Martin V8 Roadster has a gas strut that pops the cover up to expose the filler. Its only small but it is compressed closed with a cable operated latch to retain/release the cover.

Will do Adam. I've been a bit slack with it recently but I have no doubt the new year will bring a new rush of enthusiasm with it.

been watching this in the welding site, cool project...

can't wait to see it finished (like the smooth look engine bay, you gonna hide the wiring and stuff too?)
