hi

All i am in the process of stripping my engine and gearbox of which is a 1275 unit and require a fly wheel puller, i have looked at various options i.e price and want to get a good one as i know that there are some cheap and nasty ones out there of which i want to strongly avoid knowing the problems this can cause if things break.

i know these vary in price ranging from about £13 + and now of people to buy the cheaper items and they cause lots of trouble please can someone give some good advice on which one to buy

Thanks

Nibs

Sykes & Pickavant

Sykes & Pickavant puller is good name, however the minisport heavy duty puller looks to be a more substantial centre "boss", and only a couple of quid dearer?

I think the sykes one comes with 2 different sets of puller bolts, for either verto/pre-verto flywheels. Remember to screw the bolts all the way in then measure the distance between flywheel and puller plate to make sure its sitting square, it should pop straight off. It will take some force to get it off, tap the puller centre bolt every few turns aswell to shock it.

Remember to put the little cap which the puller presses against in the middle of the crank, to prevent the crank threads being damaged.

So does the minisport one. These are metric and imperial threads to match the flywheel.

After you've taken the keyed washer out or all your efforts will be wasted!

The one Halfords sell comes with all the above, removed two clutches with it no problems.

Ours is Sykes & Pickavant. No problems on the 8 flywheels pulled so far.

personal opinion is the sykes one, used mine loads and loads of times on both verto and pre, just swap the bolts which are supplied depending on which setup you have

Im using the Sykes & Pickavant, its served me pretty well.

It only let me down once after one stubborn flywheel wouldnt budge after a week of hammering the center bolt, tightening, leaving over night, and repeating the next day, etc... Then after a couple of days, undoing the center bolt and repeating the procedure. But by about day 7 i went to tighten it up and BANG, the center bolt snapped, but after taking it back getting a new bolt, tried again and after a further two days pop off it came, and amazingly enough the crank tail was still good.
