Checked your track rod ends mate?
When mine was disconnected it was the easiest thing to steer
Or maybe someone fitted a power steering pump when you weren't looking :D

Get the tracking checked, if this is out it can cause the steering to be light. Quite possible due to being in an accident.

I hit a pothole in my Mini and it isn't driving right... but my Dad said to me that it's in my head... But it feels so much lighter :S
It's off to the garage soon for two new tyres and I am going to have the tracking tested. Hope there is nothing wrong with it :D

Apart from the tracking would suggest you check that the rack U bolts are still bolted securely to the bodyshell. Would be worth checking the all front subframe mountings as well if its a post 1976 car.

also check the pinch bolt at the bottom end of the steering column ,the splines on the steering rack can strip off if the bolt has come loose ,so make sure you check them too before just tightening up the bolt .

cautionary tale /........ a mate of mine wrote his woody estate off because the splines on his rack were stripped ,cant be too careful !!!
