Model: Rio
Year: 1993
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

Hi all,
I have spent the morning trying to fit my new minispares rear adjustable camber/toe brackets. The holes in the bracket just don’t want to align, if you look at the first picture, the bottom two holes (that you cant see in the picture) are aligned and bolts will go in, and the bracket is sat flush with the sub frame, but the two side bolts are miles out.

I have also taken a picture of standard bracket on the right and new bracket on the left.
Has anyone fitted these brackets before or can see something I am doing wrong? The old bracket fitted back on perfectly, so I haven’t pulled out the radius arm or anything.

Any ideas?

Cheers
Dan

Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?

On the bottom where the 2 bolts will go in, have you actually put them in and done them up tight? I have these fitted on mine and mine were similar in that all 4 didn't line up, but i put 2 bolts in tight and it seemed to line itself up!

In that picture the bolts arent in, but I did put them in and did them up tight and it made no differnce to the alignment, did yours go on fairly easily? When you did the bottom two bolts up, did the other two holes align exactly or did you still have to pull it about a bit?

I cant remember exactly as it was about a year ago but i remember it wasn't straight forward, im pretty sure i used a centre punch in one hole to "lever" it into place, i know not the best method but i wanted it on!

It's SO much easier to just file the hole in the standard bracket! None of this hassle - you would have been 'job done' and off down the pub by now! Send the brackets back - obviously not made correctly - and just file the hole. Simples.

Does anyone know what bolt size/type the bolts are that used for the camber brackets, they look like 5/16ths, just not sure on the thread type.

Cheers

the bottom holes should be elongated same as the standard ones to take up any minor dicrepances

have you tried putting the two top bolts in first then the bottom two

also does not look like the rubber seal is sitting sqaurly are the nuts on the pivot pin tightened up correctly ?

also might not help with the jack there as may push the brackestd to one side

I've been fitting these this week i found it easier to fit them with the adjuster plate taken off to start with.
Then refitting this once the bracket was attatched.
Also check that the edge of the bush on the subframe mounting isn't interfering with the fit.
It does look from the picture like the bracket isn't all the way home on the radius arm.
The edge of the bush could very well be the cause of your woes.
As Stig says one of the holes on the bottom is elongated to allow for discrepancies.
So it will be best to fit the upper bolts first as these need to be precisely located.
Hope this helps.

i've fitted a few sets to various minis over the years and every time the holes have needed filing out to get them to align.

The bottom two holes seem out of alignment, I can get the top two in or the bottom two in but not both, also the oposite bottom hole is elongated on the new braket compared to the standard ones, so I have taken a file to the bottom two holes and I have got one side on. I spoke to minispares and they said that it is most likely because its a non-genuine subframe (replaced a couple of years ago), hopefully the other side should fit with a bit of adjustment to the holes.
