Hi all
Well bought a Park Lane for my son to learn all about the workings of a car and hopefully in the process rebuild (Many years ago i learnt in a simular way but on an allegro aghhhh)
Decision for Dan (my son) is, do we rebuild as a Park lane or mod it. He's only 15 at moment so we've got a few years to do it and a good sized garage too, although this time span may reduce when i'm suffering the cold, servicing my Laguna outside

i have to say, your son is sooo lucky.

im 17, (my threads just a bit bellow) and i got a mini to work on, and learn about this christmas. i think its a fab idea. what im doing is restoration, but your son has 2 years before he can learn to drive anyway so you may aswell teach him to rebuild it, and by the time hes 17, he can mod it...

your son is very very lucky, good man

Welcome  - Sound just like my dad - problem is I bought my first Mayfair in 2005 when I was 14 and now have four!

Well in terms of modifications, what are you hoping to do? Some insurers can get a bit iffy with mods.

Some pictures would be nice  Well as with any "teen" (I am included here!) they'll want something to play their tunes on so I think it calls for some improved "Ice" as I couldn't hear bugger all with the stereo/speakers in mine.

Next I think he may want to improve the looks on the outside - stay away from body kits (grille/lights/wheels/arches may be in order). Best have a look at a few mags/go to a few shows before you think about anything IMO. London to Brighton run is in about 137 days.

Hi there, welcome.thats a cool idea ,and would be difficult to build original with your sons age probably as we all want different things at that sort of age!! however for what its worth i think park lanes are pretty rare.a friend of mine had one years ago and he saw one come into imm in the summer and scoured the site so he could take a picture of a mint one.it was the only one we saw out of lord knows how many minis that were on site from all over europe! just my opinion as find it weird that people buy a limited then change out all the unique bits that make them what they are especially if original when you could just get a normal mini?! thats my two pennies worth! good luck and have fun.enigma

Thanks for all your welcomes
Personally I think I'd like to keep it as a Park Lane, but not sure Dan agree's. Just had a couple of hours in garage having a look and prod. Front end needs some work with wings scuttle and front looking the worse for rust, as does the boot with holes in the floor, however the middle appears sound had the carpets up and initially quite pleased although i'll have to dig a bit deeper. Will try to sort a few pictures soon and start it up on the project page.
I sense that me and the boy will have some falling out sessions during this project. Not to worry all character building :)

i guess its all part of growing up, iv had a shelterd up rbinging with about 3 arguments in my 17 years at hme? hasnt done me good. though iv argued and learnt to fend for myself at school, its always good to get close to your son (or your son close to you) through a project like this.
