Hi.

Just fitting my megajolt kit to my car, ( ), and I need some ht leads, but I need custom lengths to suit my setup.

I'm using the ford coil pack, so will need ford fitting on that end; but I know I can remove these from some used leads and refit them to new ones.

My coilpack is fitted to the bulkhead, next to the wiper motor, so I need leads long enough to reach the spark plugs. It is very similar to this setup, found on the internet:

I have searched 'KN Racing' which is labelled on the leads, but had no luck. Anyone know where I can buy long HT leads suitable for my application. (blue would be nice too, aha!) Will halfords stock similar items? I don't have too many decent local motor factors.

Thanks for reading,

JJ :)

My MJ setup is exactly as the one in your photo.

Mine is fitted with standard length mk5 Escort pushrod (valencia) engine, plug leads, straight from the scrap car.

I think it was a 1996 car, possibly the fiesta ones with the same engine would also fit.

HI,

there are 2 types of coilpack, which have different ends on the leads,so will be an idea to take your coiplack with you to check
i;m pretty sure the ones you need are for Mk3/4 fiesta & escorts with 1.1, 1.3 and 1.6's (crossflow style engined not zetec engines)

i used some fiesta ones from halfords

Year: 03/89 > 12/92
CC: 1299
Engine Code 1: JBC
Engine Code 2: JBC

Are you using the coil pack with the clips on the ignition lead or the coil pack with push on connectors??

I'm using the latter, off a Fiesta i believe which are flat mounted and have igntion leads long enough OE.

I'm not completely sure but i think Ka ignition leads maybe the ones you require. Check them out a halfords.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies guys!

My coil is the bulkier type, and has mushroom shaped connectors, which require the clips on the ht leads to lock them onto the coil.

I'm going to the scrappy tomorrow to try and find some ones which will fit, but will try halfords if I can't find any.

Thanks!

i took the approx length of the longest lead with a piece of string, went to a scrap yard and searched the fords...eventualy i found one with enough length and correct connecters used those leads, got them for cheap too! aaaand if you take down the reg nubmber if the scrapped car still has them on, then when you go to a local motor factors ask for leads to suit that type of car, hey presto you have fitting ones

^ Great advice. I just measured the longest lead I'll need, so will go searching for some tomorrow.

Whilst I have you megajolt guys here, where is the vr sensor found on a edis equipped car? The car I took my EDIS and coil from had half its engine gutted, and I couldn't see it, so I need to pick up a sensor tomorrow at the same time.

Thanks!

That's a cracking tip about keeping donor registrations

You should be able to use pretty much any wasted spark coilpack. Have you tried looking on Ebay for leads? There's some info on Autosportlabs. The one I claimed was hiding under the exhaust manifold on the back of the engine, by the clutch. Again, I don't think the edis is too fussy, it's just a Hall effect pickup.

minijj, most fords have them at the front if you look down the front of the block there is a wire that looks to go into the gearbox, it is here and generally difficult to get plus you need a torx bit (i think) or 10mm. Older fords are easier to get but all are usable. A fiat VR sensor is really easy to get to and compact.

Are you making you own trigger wheel and sensor mount??? If so go for the fiat one.

I'm planning on buying a universal trigger wheel, and bolting it to my standard pulley. I may buy a ready made sensor bracket, not sure how much is involved in machining one to fit.

Just out of curiosity, why a fiat one if I go down this route? Thanks,

JJ

They look easier to mount from my perspective and are neater. I have one i'm going to use at some point but have found myself doing other stuff first. Check them out anyway. They are about the same diameter on the end that picks up the teeth.

I've taken to scanning Ebay piccies for ideas on parts.

Triggerwheels.com now do a cheapo bolt on wheel for the A series

The Triggerwheels bolt on one is still £40, and is designed for the 1275 damper pulley. Scince I'm going to be using a 998 pulley (I have seen setups using this) It would be easier for me to buy a universal one and bolt it on. I will be ordering it from Triggerwheels.

Decided I'm going to make the bracket myself, as I've seen some quite simple yet effective ones.

Thanks chaps, to the scrapyard tomorrow, looking for ht leads and a vr sensor.

JJ
