Well, the problem I have with kettles, is that the inner lining tends to be plastic, which I don't like. Then the bases of them are often unstable, which is just plain dangerous - (Trust me ... I've poured 2 litres of just boiled water down my leg, in the past ... it's not pleasant!). But also, the button to open the lid is usually totally useless ... and to top it off, a lot of the lids are metal - So what happens if you've got a lot of people over and you need to refill and reboil the kettle? - You have to touch the really hot metal lid to push it back down again!

That's why it's so difficult to choose a kettle! :)

Yeah, it must be really difficult in London - But if you choose to live & work there - That's no one else's fault, lol :)

Not as easy as that though is it! Work, family, friends mean we have ties here. Trust me I would love to be able to move outta London. I would leave the country if I had a chance... which isnt impossible what with my industry. I can pretty much transfer to anywhere in the world. I like the idea of New York, but I doubt that will be much different from London! I have my best mate In Sydney who has been there for the last 5 years and Hanna has Family in Hong Kong. All places I think I could settle into fairly easy.... So dont tempt me! :)

Lol! :P

Yeaaah - Nah, I realise it's difficult! I'd never, ever be able to afford anything over in London! - But we've got too many Minis and random things - London wouldn't have the space for us anyway, lol.

Cor - If you jet-set to these swish places ... I will definitely come over for that visit... !

I love your house renovating Bean, You've got cool taste and a cool house to put the tasteful stuff in

On Kettles, my parents always buy rubbish very cheap Kettles and before long they all explode etc. (We've had so many kettles its unreal!) Now my dad fixed one of them and because of sods law now we have a spare none will ever go wrong again!

250K for a house in London? :) London house prices are so mad, I work in South West London near Kingston and its not _that_ desirable but the house prices here are mad.

I actually own a very small studio flat down where I live (i don't live in it) and i've been itching to renovate but haven't had a free time when its minus tennant for long enough.. Then theres not much you can do because its very small!..

Very last thing.. Are both England_Expects and Nightflier Kris?

Aw, fanks! :P

Well, K and I have very similar ideas of what we like and what we don't - So it makes things a lot easier!

Other than the stripped vs painted doors saga that's ongoing - We're pretty well matched! :P

I've wanted to be able to do something like this for ages ... Just you wait til I start accessorising! :)

Coool! :P I didn't know you were mortgaged to the hilt, too? Lol :P

And £250k doesnt even get you that much! Its not even London, Its Essex! (London borough of Essex, still well within the M25) 250k Its just a limit we set because of the deal for first time buyers not having to pay stamp duty (if its under £250k)
As usual they ignore the fact that prices are more expensive in and around London. It should be set higher in London imo. Same as Tax bands, they should be set different in London compared to else where in the UK.

If we did get that house, we would have plenty of room for Parking! 3/poss 4 in the "workshop" garage, one in the garage on the side of the house and 2 cars on the front. Not that I imagine us ever owning that many cars

I doubt we will ever move country, its just a little dream to get me through the day. The opportunities are definitely there but the logistics will never work out right. The chances of both of us having an opportunity at the same time, and it being the right move will never be right. But thats life.

Stamp duty is a total killer! We were lucky enough to avoid it ... They were bringing it back for properties over £125k on the 1st Jan 2010, if I remember rightly - We completed on 23rd December 2009 at 10am! :techsupport: - The solicitors closed at 12! :)

Neil - you never know what might happen in the future - It's always good to have dreams & ideas ... otherwise, what would be the point? :)

Talking of kettles and toasters

Went into currys looking at DSLR's and somehow got distracted by toasters and kettles >_<

I honestly didn't know you could actually get a toaster for £250 :P that looked no different and did nothing more than the one a bit further down for like £50
Theres some cool stuff though haha, i could see it all getting out of hand.

I neeeed a 4-slice toaster! :P

Radiators still not here - Spoke to the guy this morning and they're working their way through 20 pallet loads of radiators ... so our order is somewhere in the middle of it all!

Is thems solid oak counters, Bean?

Lush. :P

We had the same quandary as you wrt appliances.
In the end we went primitive. No toaster, no microwave, no leccie kekkle, no fryer(no nothing actually!) & a nice stee kekkle that goes on the hob & shrieks when it's teat-time. >_<
To be honest, we don't have the space for 'em anyway & I don't miss not having the gubbins.

They're solid 40mm thick wood tops, yesh! :P

Nom nom

We lived with a whistling kettle for a while, when mum & dad were renovating their house (and I was living in a mobile home! >_<) - I couldn't imagine doing it again ... I'm quite a simple person - I don't need alot .. but a kettle? I'm far too addicted to tea to not have one! =]

We don't have a microwave, nor a frier or anything - but a toaster and a kekkle - That's about it, really :-

What work surfaces have you decided on? With the weather getting slightly warmer, has the lack of radiators stopped you moving in?
